I just don't know what to make of this. I posted earlier this week
about Boone getting excited and thinking I heard a kitten crying. I've
gone back several times at different times of the day and night and
haven't found a thing. This afternoon Boone and I went back and he got
tremendously excited and was prancing all around and I saw...nothing. I
also couldn't hear anything. But he was acting so much like there was
something there! I checked bushes, fence line, and everything. I
haven't even seen any stray adults lately except for "Midnight" who I
think actually lives in the building but is let out every once in a
while. It is interesting to note that this afternoon was wet and foggy
just like the night we heard the cry.
The poor dog kept looking at me and looking at the fence like "don't you
see it Mommy?" and I had to say no! Either he is losing it, I am losing
it, or the Mothership is playing jokes...

You have the makings of a lovely short story about the ghost kitty that
comes in the fog.

I know. It sounds good doesn't it? I hope the story has a happy ending
with Boone finding another little brother or sister for himself. :-)

For what it's worth, back years ago when I had the Phantom Kitty inside
the house the poor thing sounded to be in distress, hurt, scared, or
something of the sort. When I talked soothingly to the poor thing, the
sounds changed to relaxed meows and eventually to purrs before fading
out entirely. If you are able to hear the Phantom Cat, you might want to
try talking softly to it and see if you can detect any changes in the
sounds.

I didn't hear anything this time around but I'll keep that in mind. I
was sort of hoping it was a real kitten...

Maybe the coloring blends with the scenery. Did you look in trees, sheds,
etc?

Good suggestion. I never thought to look UP. I'll go back today.

The fog will do weird things with sound. I know our burglary rate picks
up when it's foggy. Not only does the fog conceal the crooks, but it
sometmes muffles their glass breaking and other sounds as well as making
them sound like they're coming from different directions. Beware of the
fog! <g>

If you like a good ghost story did you ever see John Carpenter's The
Fog? To this day I get a little creeped out in the fog. Add a fog horn
when we're vacationing on Lake Superior and I get positively jumpy! :-)
I hear they're doing a remake. I can't believe it will be as campy or
creepy as the original.

I've never seen that, but I did read a great Stephen King story about
a fog, although it was called "The Mist". It was a fog, though! :)

You're right. The book was The Mist. DUH!! I wrote The Fog in another
post but you're right.

That was one scary story! However, there was a film called 'The Fog' which
was pretty creepy. Narrated by John Houseman who was telling the story to a
bunch of kids on the beach, if I recall correctly.

I haven't seen that movie yet but I want to. I did read Stephen King's
The Fog back years ago. I loved it! I'll have to rent that movie.
