I couldn't find her!

jmcquown - 05 Jul 2007 17:06 GMT Persia hid from me so well last night. I actually thought she might have gotten outside, although I'm careful she doesn't. But I was taking trash outside and maybe I wasn't so careful with shutting the door first?
I searched everywhere. Behind everything. Closets, pantry, under the bed behind all the furniture. But dammit, no Persia! I kept calling her. No Persia.
Where the hell are you?! I couldn't sleep. I finally zonked out on the couch at about 3:30AM. Around 6AM she came up and tapped me, "Were you looking for me?" Of course I was looking for you!
I still have no idea where she was hiding. There are only so many places she can go (that I know of). Methinks she was transported to the Mothership for a consultation. Let's just say I was in sort of a panic before exhaustion took over and she woke me up with a tap on the nose. Meow-ma? I'm right here. Yeah, sure. And you've been here all night, right?

She was curled up underneath it having a nice nap! And this was after I'd torn the bed apart to look for her among the box springs.
But I love the image of Persia whispering the feline equivalent of "Beam Me Up, Scotty!"

oldhickory - 05 Jul 2007 17:48 GMT They're good at that, aren't they? Once I found ours had pulled away the fabric covering on the bottom of the box spring and had crawled inside and was "napping" there. I only found her because the second time I looked under the bed, I noticed a bulge hanging down from the bottom of the box spring. After we extricated her, I stapled the fabric back to the frame.
I always sing the "Meow Mix" song to them when we feed them so they're very good about appearing whenever I sing the song. That way I can nearly always get them out of hiding when I need to.
Signature ie ride fast, take chances.

It doesn't come with a song.

It doesn't come with a song. Invent your own song then! I lost Boyfie once, in the house, just like you lost Persia. He strolled into the front room and totally disappeared, I swear it ;-) Since then I used a 5 tone whistle (done by myself, not an actual bought whistle) when I fed him. I would whistle this tune every time I put his food down for him for a while. He is quite greedy, so he learned pretty quickly what this tune meant. I can now call him from anywhere with this even if he is outside somewhere looking at rats he will be inside in less than 2 minutes when he hears it. I always give him food when he responds to it, even if he ate earlier and I just want to get him inside for the night, he gets a few crunchies (dry food which he LOVES, and hardly ever gets) for responding, so just by appearing for the whistle he gets some sort of reward. And if he is somehow "disappeared" in the house, that whistle will fetch him out from wherever he has disappeared to. My Boyfie just loves his food.

Jessie will often come, but not always (but she'll *ALWAYS* come when she hears us tap the side of the aquarium with the fish food can - she *LOVES* fish food!). Demi will sometimes come, but not often (and sometimes comes about 10 minutes after I call).
I guess it depends on how greedy your cat it. In Jill's case, rewarding Persia with treats is not viable since Persia has to be on a special diet and can't have treats. :<

More so, even, as she waits to be fed all the time because she's on a diet she will learn it *very* quickly.

You have to do it every time you feed them, even if the cats are in. First you do the whistle, or song, whatever. Then you put the food down and continue whistling or singing while they are eating it, thus the whistle or song is connected with yummy food. Do this for two weeks every time they are fed and you can get them from anywhere with the whistle or song. Outside or in. That's been my experience anyway.
It won't work on cats that are dry fed with food dishes full all the time, obviously, because they are never hungry. I think it's good for my cats to feel hungry sometimes. They are fed twice a day with wet food, but if Boyfie is desperate he gets a little bit of dry. I like to know they have an appetite, it's an indication of good health. I will never know this if they have dishes full of kibble to snack on all the time. It will also make them fat.

I learned to put them in the bathroom the night before than when you are ready. I have some Kevlar lined gloves to prevent the what the heck do you think you are doing bite and scratch.

I have some Kevlar lined gloves to prevent the what the heck do you >think you are doing bite and scratch. There are a couple of lessons I have learned about taking a cat to the vet for a checkup: get the carrying cage out a couple of days in advance, as the cat will pull a disappearing act if it sees you holding the cage; and, have the cage door open before you bring the cat to the cage. Trying to hold onto a squirming cat with just one hand, while you open the cage door with the other hand, gives the cat too much of a chance to get away. At that point, the cat will then disappear into hyperspace for the next several hours.

I hadn't seen him in a while, and that was unusual, so I started looking in all the Ping hiding places (where he goes when he really does want to be alone), but no Ping - so I started the search all over again, calling foir him loudly this time. I was checking the back corners of the bathroom and I turned around, there he was with the "you lookin' for me?" expression on his face. <sigh>
