We have a free standing pantry/ cabinet in our kitchen. It has narrow
shelves on the doors with a wooden dowel across the front so cans and other
things won't fall off.

Cinnamon discovered a bag of catnip on the bottom shelf.

Last week she took it out of the pantry while I was getting some sugar to
fill the container. I turn around to put the canister back and she is
rubbing her head on something on the floor. I look and she has the bag of
catnip so of course she got some.

Now every time the door is opened she sticks her head in there to get the
catnip.

LOL!  Well, you were being a bad slave by not anticipating her wants, so she
*had* to help herself!!!

People who say cats are not as intelligent as dogs have
never lived with them! (They are VERY intelligent, when it's
in their personal "best interests" to be so - it's just that
their notion of what those are don't often coincide with ours!)

Yep!  I've told this story before but it bears repeating.  Before she had to
start eating r/x food, Persia used to get a can of Fancy Feast as a treat
every Saturday.  One *Sunday* she opened the pantry door, maneuvered herself
past the trash can to the shelf on the side.  She selected a can of Fancy
Feast and got it off the shelf.  Then she scooted it to the middle of the
kitchen floor and sat down to wait... for me :)  Even better, the FF was on
the shelf next to same-size cans of chopped green chili peppers.  She knew
which one(s) to choose from.  If that's not smart, I don't know what is! :D

I pictured this as being like family members preparing for dinner.
Cinnamon is so clever and cute.

We once made the mistake of leaving a bag of catnip AND a bag of Chinese
dried sprats in the same cupboard.  We found Zeke and Muriel rolling
around the floor in ecstasies surrounded by a pile of mixed fish and
green stuff.  It was like a Roman orgy out of a movie.

I recently  bought a bag of treats for Rusty's anniversary. One day I
came home to find Rusty had chewed a hole at the bottom of the bag. He
probably gorged himself with treats. After that I put the bag in a
metal bin.Rusty came running when he heard me open the bin.
