In response to your post in Tak's thread:

No, I don't know about Bitter Apple. I've heard (on newsgroups) of
people using it to discourage
the chewing of electrical cords, but I never had that issue with the
cats, so I've never really
learned about it.

This issue just became bad enough to separate them this weekend. I was
planning on calling the
vet on Monday a.m. to ask about their bowel habits -- I believe they
need a stool softener and am
not quite sure what to use. At the same phone call I was going to ask
if there was *anyting* suitable and safe
that could be used on their bottoms to discourage suckling.

So can you, or anyone else, tell me anything about Bitter Apple? Where
to buy it?

Thanks
Sherry

I personally use the coffee can of marbles  one sound that cats hate to
hear

I buy bitter apple in a spray bottle at PetSmart.  Molly is insane about
cords and Kayla used to eat walls and furniture.

I comes in a while plastic spray bottle with green labeling.

My vet has always recommended Metamucil for bowel problems for our guys.  I
works but dosage has always been a wild guess so I try to err on the low
side.  It helps both ad a softener and as a diarrhea preventive.   I don't
remember how old your kittens are now or it they are being introduced to
soft food yet.

And thank you for the reminder.  I had to replace the XBox controller
(again)
and need to remember to spray the new one.  Molly seems to have learned they
don't carry a charge.

When Bandit was having a problem with constipation after her surgery the vet
had me put a little pure mineral oil into her canned food - are the kittens
eating any gooshy food yet?

Yes, they're eating a kind of gruel with formula mixed with A/D. I
asked the vet today, and
she said put a little Karo in their milk. I did that, and if I don't
see some results
pretty soon, I'm calling back. They're too little mess around very
long with remedies
that don't work. I"ve done some googling, and a few drops of mineral
oil *is* exactly
what most websites suggest.

Jo has already answered you, so I hope you are sorted, although I always got
mine from the vet in a tiny bottle with a dropper stick which might save you
getting a bigger size that you might not need.
I'm fairly sure it is quite safe, but you might like to check for certain as
your bitties are so young.
I tasted it once myself, just to see what it was like.  I now know why it is
so effective ;-)
