A few years ago we had a little competition here on rpca. How much stuff
could we stack on our sleeping cats before they got fed up, got up, and
left? I think TJ and her Dusty won, with an amazing amount of things
stacked on him.
Today was one of those moments you wish you had a camera permanently
fixed to your hand. I was out in the enclosure, reading a book while the
cats enjoyed the Midsummer sunshine. It's very quiet here in Helsinki
during the long Midsummer weekend, as most people leave to spend it in
the country.
As I sat there, I saw from the corner of my eye Caliban laying beside my
chair. When I reached the end of the paragraph, I looked at him
properly. I laughed at him because he was lying flat as a pancake. Then
I suddenly realized four grey paws were sticking out from under him!
Mir's head wasn't visible at all under him. I shooed him off, and there
lay Miranda, looking quite content.
I think Caliban has taken cat-stacking to new heights. He is about twice
Miranda's weight, so I think we also win the cat-stacking competition.
(Moments later, Mir attacked Caliban, biting his neck, then they started
grooming each other, so no animals were hurt during the not filming of
this episode.)

:) :) :)
Bandit & Claudius are doing much the same in a competition over the best
napping spot of the moment - the bedroom chair on which I keep my "clothes
for tomorrow morning". Horizontally it holds only 1 cat, but vertically 2 &
that's what they're doing much of the time. They're fairly similar weights
though, so Mir must get the prize for tolerance.
Needless to say I'm wearing a different outfit since my original choice is
now off limits to me.

What a great post! That's really funny.
It always amazes me what a cat will put up with when asleep. One time
when Smudge was a kitten, I woke up to find that she was sleeping
completely underneath me. She was flat as a pancake, and wouldn't wake
up when I shook her. I was sure I had killed her! But she was fine.
(Hey, could this mean I might have won the cat-stacking contest? I
weigh considerably more than Caliban, and I know that's really saying
something. :))

One summer, I left the cats on the island in my mum's able hands. She
was going to sleep in my shack because there were lots of people out
there at the moment, and she wanted to give some of them her room in her
cabin. She was really worried about Miranda. Mir likes to get under the
covers at night, and mum was afraid she would crush her during the
night. I don't think she slept at all the first few nights that Mir got
under the covers with her (it took a few days before she did this, but
then she accepted mum instead of me).

I think you probably win. :)

It's very light. :) We don't have midnight sun in Helsinki, though. You
have to go even further north for that. But on the 21st (the real
solstice), the sun rose at 3.54 and set at 22.50 here in Helsinki. It
hardly gets dark at all during the night.

That's good enough for me. I don't have to go the North Pole. :)
One of my favorite times of day is the last half-hour or so before
sunset, when everything gets bathed in a golden or even pinkish light.
I hear (from a friend of mine who grew up in St. Petersburg, just a
hop, skip and a jump from you, relatively speaking) that it's like that
for hours and hours.
I guess I wouldn't have to go that far. Northern Canada would probably
work. But I like the idea of visiting a city.

Yes, it's like that for hours on end. Especially on the island - the
sunsets are spectacular there, and then it doesn't get dark after it
sets behind the forest, but the golden dusk just continues for hours.

Maybe you'll visit one day. I'll show you around. :)

It was like that when we lived in Anchorage. There was a very long twilight
after the sun set and again before the sun rose. So it didn't get dark at
all.

You're not the only one to wish you had a camera handy. I can imagine the
picture though, it does make me smile.

It would have been a hilarious picture, with Caliban lying flat like a
pancake, and four little grey paws sticking out from under him.

LOL! I can see your Caliban doing that! Despite the fact she was (happily)
squished by her big brother, I imagine she wears the pants in the household
;-)

Oh, yes, she's definitely the boss (and the evil genius) around here. If
you know the comic Two Lumps, Mir is like Eben and Caliban (though not a
Russian Blue) like Snooch. Every time Iv read that strip, the likenesses
strike me. :)
