Don't give up on it so quickly. Remember, when it comes to cats,
patience is key. Give it a couple more weeks.

Yes, it took a month for Lizzie, Tennessee & Smokie to use the first one we
bought.
At first they wouldn't go near it. After a week I decided to do the
following:
Emptied and unplugged it. Left it sitting in a high traffic area for a
week - they *had* to go past it to get from one area of the house to
another. After a week, whenever *I* walked past it, I pushed it a foot or
so closer to where I was going to place it. Within 3 days it was right next
to their existing water dish. I let it sit there for a couple of days -
unplugged and empty. Then I started putting water in it, but left it
unplugged. Once I saw that the cats were drinking from the Drinkwell, I
stopped filling their regular dish, and when it was dry and all that was
left was the Drinkwell - I plugged it in, sat back and watched. Tennessee
drank from the bowl while it was running. Lizzie drank from the stream.
While Weeble was a hoolikitten - he drank from it immediately. When we
isolated him (only for the first 6-8 hours) after the snip - he wouldn't
drink from the plain-old water dish that we had for him! When I opened the
door to check on him, he bolted out the door and made a beeline for the
Drinkwell and drank..... and drank and drank..... Poor baby didn't know
what a regular dish with water in it was for.
Now we have some cats that won't drink from anything unless it's got running
water (like a faucet). Several will join us every time we go into the
bathroom and *beg* us to turn on the tub faucet for them. Ping, Ernie,
Betty Barney and Lizzie are the main culprits. Occasionally they are joined
by Tennessee and Moe.

My cats wouldn't use the Drinkwell so I gave it to a friend. Her cats
love it.

Yep. It took Persia almost a year to start snoozing in her cute little
pyramid bed. One day I looked over and there she was, all curled up and
comfy in it. She uses it all the time now.

It's not a question of using it... Tessie has already learned how to
disassemble it and pull the filter out! She's too smart for her own
good... it's not worth the hassle.

I think the key here is to distract her with another toy - like a
Rubik's cube or an erector set. ;)

Suggestion: Donate it to an Humane Society shelter and then take an
income tax deduction.

Excellent suggestion!

That's what I did. A lot of people around here have garage sales, but I
don't want all the hassle. I donate everything to Alley Cats Allies or to
the Women's Shelter (depending on the item) and then itemize on my income
tax. The recipient benefits by receiving the items, and I benefit by taking
a deduction without going to all the work of selling. (In Karen's case, she
might also have trouble selling for the price she listed because $25.00 plus
the cost of shipping will probably come close to the cost of simply buying
it new.)

$25 plus the cost of shipping is what I paid for it. I finally found out
that it does come apart (I did not realize it did) when I dropped it
this morning after rinsing it out...I still don't see a removable motor
though.. Maybe I am just dense. Mine is filled with water that's already
been filtered and to whoever siad - don't youy wash your drinking
glasses? No, not when all they've had in them is water. I rinse them out
and use them specifically for water. After a lot of times, I'll stick it
in the dishwasher.
