I went to pick Silver up yesterday and my shoulder went 'pop, scrunch,
HURT!!!!!'... then it went back into place, but I rapidly found out
that I can't lift it above shoulder height without a great deal of
discomfort. It wasn't any better today so off to the doctor I went and
he says I've got a rotator cuff injury, and hopefully it's just a
strain and it'll mend in a few weeks. It's fine unless I try to do
anything that uses it, but alas the doctor told me that I have to keep
it moving as part of the cure! Ow!
(If you want a laugh imagine me in the Chinese restaurant this
afternoon trying to manouver the soup spoon to my lips without
spilling it everywhere! In the end I gave up and picked the bowl up
and drank it like it was a cup... I felt like such a piggy, but
luckily there wasn't anyone else around to see me!)

OOoo. Ow. My sympathies. It will heal but do be careful, treat it well.
That's just not a good thing.

I'm sorry, but if you injure yourself just lifting a cat (and not falling or
hitting your head on something in the process) then :
A) you need to exercise more and get in better physical condition
or...
B) your cat needs to go on a diet - unless your cat is an 'exotic' species,
such as lion, tiger, leopard........
This is all in jest, of course.... I have a couple of cats that would give
Ahnold a hernia if he tried to pick them up :)

I know, I know... (blushes) It was a bit embarassing... I was reaching
around the computer and lifting and I was at an awkward angle but
didn't realise it... Silver is a dead weight when she's relaxing, and
a fifteen pound dead weight at that!
I think she's trying to cripple me... when she was a kitten she twined
around my ankles and made me trash my knee tripping over her, and
that's only just finally better now two years later! So what does she
do? She tries to trash my shoulder instead...

Purrs for your shoulder to heal quickly. No, I don't want to laugh at
somebody in pain.

Purrs for your shoulder.
And please don't feel bad about the Chinese restaurant. I've felt so much
better since eating in Chinatown in San Francisco a few times. It appears
to be perfectly acceptable to sip from the soup bowl, as well as to lift the
plate or dish closer to your mouth when eating something difficult with
chopsticks.
I figure if its good enough manners for Chinese couples in their eighties
its good enough for me.
Also its fine to use two hands on your tea cup or soup bowl.

Karen, I can totally sympathize as I went through something very similar
here not long ago. I could barely use my left HAND let alone lifr my left
arm for several days. I very good aid in reducing pain and inflammation is
to apply (on clean skin, with clean hands) Arnica gel (any store that
carries homeopathics will have this), topped with DMSO (easily found at any
feed store for cheap). It could reduce your recovery time dramatically ;)
for a very small price.

A bad shoulder is nothing to laugh at. Purrs that you will be able to
"fix" it. MLB

Ouch! That's gotta hurt, and boy, I do understand the having to move a
painful part. I have exercises to do to help my broken hip, and it's
not fun, but you know what? It *IS* helping. So just hum to yourself,
put on a favorite song, pet a cat, and gently keep moving.
Purrs for the pain to go away and soon!
