...for one last post and I'll try to quit burdening the group with me grief.

This is the little memorial I set up on my desk at work for Bandit (yes,
they know I'm the crazy cat lady and they totally understand - or at least
don't make fun of me to my face!!!).

That's the little devil cat figurine I told you about, and the card my vet
sent me.

Thank you Victor - I know, you guys are far beyond ordinary friends.  I
guess it's that after I've gone on about Bandit for a while in the "real
world" people start to look at me funny!  ;>  I start to feel guilty about
displaying my grief.

Don't you just love the little devil cat figurine?  The one I posted a link
to before I took this picture had a cat with an innocent look on her face -
but this one has a devilish look to go along with the horns, cape, and
pitchfork just like Bandit herself did (look at the disdainful look she's
giving in that picture).  That and the fact that I found a tabby that also
looks a bit like her and this was a "must have" memorial figurine!

As they say in alt.callahans, a burden shared is a hurden lightened.

I know how you feel - three years after Presto's passing, I still grieve.
The cats understand, and give me extra cuddles.

I've loved Spider Robinson's philosophy ever since I first read "Stardance"
(and the second time, and the third... and the twentieth!)

It hurts me to see Sammy grieving.  Jessie and Demi didn't really like her
(in fact Demi has almost blossomed), but Sammy was close to her and she
misses her a lot.  She sits looking out of my bedroom doors as if she
expects Bandit to come back home again like she did after a stay at the
vet's.  She lays on my bed and looks around then lays her head on her paws
with a sigh.  It breaks my heart all over again.

You're no burden!  Since cats' lives are so much shorter
than humans' most of us have been there a few times,
ourselves.  (Even if we don't all say it every time someone
loses one of their furry family, we all sympathize when it
happens.)

You're not a burden, Lori. Purrs and gentle headbutts from my group. I
have a little Selena memorial on the mantle in my family room.  Her
urn, the cards that I received from some friends and her vet, several
pictures and a cat toy. Having a memorial is a comfort.

Thats a lovely tribute. It's hard to lose a beloved kitty. I still have a hard
time when I think of Smokey. You are never a burden.

It's no burden at all to share your feelings. Bandit seemed like a
friend and I always mentioned her to our lot, as I do many of the cats
and hoomins on here. I hope Sammy is ok. It seemed like they were
really friends.

That's a lovely memorial altar. (Well, that's what it is - an altar!)
What a beautiful picture of Bandit. And that poem always makes me tear
up.

What on earth makes you think its a burden, Lori?  I don't think there is
anyone here who has not lost a beloved pet and understands totally what you
are feeling right now.  Surely this is the very place to post about your
grief, amongst your friends who feel they *knew* Bandit from your posts.

I wish there had been such a place as this for me when I lost "the dog of my
heart" in 1999. I thought I would never recover.

{{{{{Catnip}}}}}  You're not burdening anyone.  This is one place you
can share your grief, and all of us will understand.

Beautiful tribute.

Don't even think you're a burden.  We're all here for you.  Have some
purrs of comfort direct from Mistletoe, who is cuddled up in my arms
making this very hard to type.

No, CatNipped, NEVER a burden.  Most all of us have had our hearts
broken by the loss of one of our own.  You've always been willing to
listen as we mourn...and remember.  Now we are here for you.

I should have known you would understand - it's just that people in the
"real world" are really tired of hearing me talk about Bandit, roll their
eyes when  I talk about a memorial, get the "EWWW" expression on their face
when I tell them I'm looking for a locket so I can keep a snip of her fur
close to my heart.  I'm sure you've all been there.

What's so hard is that it keeps hitting me at both expected and unexpected
times.  Expected:  None of my other three are lap cats (well, Jessie is, but
only with Ben), and none of the others sleep with me.  So every time I head
downstairs to go to bed at night, by the time I hit the third stair I
realize all over again that Bandit won't be waiting on my bed to bitch at me
as I unmake the bed and then to come and cuddle with me until I fall asleep.
By the fourth step the realization has taken my breath away and the tears
start to fall.  By the time I get to my bed I'm sobbing.  Unexpected:  I'll
be creating a presentation at work and something, usually totally unrelated
to cats, causes me to remember that my baby is gone and I'll have to grab my
box of Kleenex and try not to sob out loud.

Anyway, thank you all for your love and support - I really need it right
now.
