Well THAT was fun (for about a minute...)

John bought the girls a panic mouse on Ebay... he got it out of the
box, put some batteries in, and set it going on the bed... three cats
appeared out of nowhere to investigate. Tessie circled it warily,
ducking whenever the whirling pompom got too close to her head...
Scouty stared at it from a safe distance... and Silly crept up to it
and started playing with it. She was having a blast, and it only took
her about five minutes to figure out how to catch it - she yanked it
right to her and chewed on the cord... I took it off her and started
it up again. She caught it in one swipe and repeated the chewing. I
wondered if it was strong enough to stand up to her teeth... I decided
it probably was and put it back into action. She grabbed it, chewed
it, and one bite later she was happy - the string was whipping around
absent of pompom, and she was chewing on the ribbon :(

I wish I'd taken photos, because there won't be a repeat play session
until we buy some more pompoms, or find something stronger to fasten
onto the whirly stick... (hmm, I wonder what would happen if I tied
their cat-teaser onto it?)

LOL! Can't say I'm surprised.

Once I bought a cat toy which was a glove with ribbons and pom-poms
attached to the fingers. It seem like a clever toy at the time,
however, in reality it was not so great an idea. Aside from taking
less than a minute to rip of a pom-pom, the cat launched at my fingers
thinking that they were part of the entertainment - ouch! So we've
gone back to old fashioned cat toys like bits of string and fake mice
- far safer.

We bought a pompom glove for Silver when she was little ... it turned
out that she absolutely adored the pompoms but was intimidated by the
glove! One of them came unstitched and it turned into her favourite
toy, so when that one wore out I cut the rest off, and they were
much-loved...

I'm only really cross about the panic mouse because the darned thing
cost fifteen dollars, and THAT was on Ebay!

That would have been hilarious to see.

I don't know how many times my guys have destroyed or partially
destroyed a toy.  I give them catnip pillows at Yuletide (made sturdily
and volunteers and they make money for the no-kill shelter where we got
Internet), and they sometimes even destroy *those*, which can't be that
easy to do.

Most recently, I got them a (don't laugh!Oh, okay, go ahead!) Barbie
plush phone cat toy.  I don't think the string that attached to the
phone and had a pompom on the end.

Ah, cats -- little destroyers, but we love 'em anyway :-)
