I posted a couple months ago about my father-in-law having a minor stroke.
Nancy and I have been visiting as often as we can. Up until our last visit
(this last weekend), Clancy has been making excellent progress. However,
last week he developed pneumonia and it has really been sapping his
strength. It looks like he has lost a lot of ground in just a few days.

He needs to kick this pneumonia, and he needs to retrain the muscles
involved in swallowing. Based upon how he had been doing on prior visits,
I believe he is capable of doing this.

I'd like to ask for group purrs for Clancy's health to improve. And since
Nancy is not dealing at all well with seeing her dad in such a fragile
state, I'd also like to ask for purrs for Nancy.

Thanks.

Sure thing Dan.  Be strong for your Nancy.  My mom recently had a
stroke and it's a hard, hard thing to deal with...and her having to be
supportive and uplifting for her father while her stomach is tied in
knots and her heart is breaking.

Purrs heading over the pond.  KFC is purring her head off right now, because
she is eating her supper and it's something she particularly likes!
My uncle had a stroke 5 years ago, at first he could not swallow at all and
had to be tube fed.  The ability did come back though.  His speech is still
affected.

That's why we're all still hopeful. The stroke affected his muscle
strength and coordination, but not his speech. He is receiving
physical therapy, and has been making great progress on recovering
his strength and coordination. His ability to swallow has been a
little slower coming back, but has still been improving.

This latest setback has caused him to lose some ground, but we're
all hopeful that's he'll recover again as soon he kicks this
pneumonia.

Isn't it just a bummer that he got pneumonia on top of having a stroke? That
is cruel.  I hope he recovers from that soon.
It has been my experience with my uncle that it can take a very long time to
recover from the effects of a stroke, so don't expect too much too soon.
I'm glad to hear that your FIL hasn't had his speech affected.

My uncle could not speak at all, at first.  He has improved a lot but he
finds it very frustrating to know what he wants to say and not be able to
say it.  Like when he referred to Boyfriend as a nice dog, he knew
immediately and said "no, not dog" but he couldn't think of the word "cat"
or at least that word would not come out.
