I sometimes get a little confused as to when our garbage is picked up, so
this morning, I consulted the schedule,  and put the bag right at the door
so I wouldn't forget to take it out. Betsy decided to open it up and see
what was inside. I yelled at her to get out of it. She sat up at looked
at me with that Stare. I could almost read the thoughts going through her
furry little head. "Do I need to move? Let's see, she's sitting down,
she's got a spoonful of that glop she eats when she's got time for a full
breakfast halfway to her mouth...Naw. I can bite and scratch at this a bit
more before she can get moving."

And some people claim that cats aren't intelligent!

Oooohh!  Don't you just hate that when they turn and look at you and
wonder if you'll really get up or really reach for that squirt bottle.
They know just how much to push their luck.

Yep, Sammy fully understands when I tell her that if she doesn't stop,
I'm going to get the bottle. I swear she's looked at me, then looked
at the bottle, and carefully calculated how long it will take for me
to get up and reach the bottle.

All I have to do is say "squirt bottle" and I usually get results.Funny
thing, though, if it is sitting on the floor, she will investigate and
sniff it.   MLB

She is probably figuring out a way to disable it or make it disappear if
she ever get a chance.  :-)

Oh yeah, I know that look.  Mischief gets that look when she perches
on my desk looking at my birdies.  Every now and then she'll shift her
feet like she's about to jump.

There's no place for her to land, but I don't trust her to not try it
anyway.

All I say is "Missy, don't even think about it."  She'll stay perched
there, but she twtiches an ear at me saying "I'm just LOOKING."

Imp will put his paws up on the lower shelf of the bookcase too, but I
just say his name and he slicks off.

Sounds a bit like Cali and the Workshop. She's not allowed in the Workshop
because of all the wood chips, hazards and general crap all over the place.
So I always keep the door closed and carefully peek out when I'm ready to
leave. More often than not, she's waiting outside trying to sneak in.  Some
days she stays back out of sight and tries to make a mad dash inside before
I can rush out and shut the door.

Last weekend she managed to sneak past me and accomplish her mission,
snooping in the forbidden place. So the chase was on to catch her and make
sure she was clean before I escorted her out. She will actually listen and
leave if you coax her enough, but not before she has done her thing. I have
a scrap bucket (garbage can) full of various left over wood pieces, some of
which are rather long and pointy. Cali was sure that she wanted to jump up
to see what was in the bucket, which is not like her to leap where she
cannot look. She did the crouching and butt wiggling and I said "NO Cali",
so she stopped and looked at me.  She crouched again and I said "NO" again,
so she turned and squawked "BUT I really want to". Once more she crouched
down and was about to leap and I told her "NO" for the last time. She
finally got the idea, that jumping in the bucket was not safe and came out
of the cubby hole where the bucket is stored. So I scooped her up, made sure
she was dust free and showed her the door.

I really must make it a priority to make the shop more kitty friendly.
Again.

LOL, this sounds exactly like what Nikki would do, except I don't think
she's ever stopped at the third NO. She is one of the most stubborn cats
I've met. She talks back at me, too, and then tries again to do what she
wants to.

Cali's usual response to "NO" is "I have no idea what you're talking about",
despite her good language skills.
