Big, big cats

On Wednesday I saw tigers, normal colour, white tigers, lions, normal
colour, and white lions.  We were able to drive through big enclosures where
they were loose in acres.
Having a cat myself, I was able to spot when one of the white tigers was
approaching to spray us through the fence through our car side window which
was slightly open because it was really hot weather.

Electric windows, me a passenger.  "Quick, quick, close
the windows"  "Eh?"  "Close the windows NOW"  Windows closed..JET of tiger
urine poured down the window.
I got dribbled on by a giraffe through the sun roof on the car.  I was at

LOL! (Sorry.... it's just kinda funny) You gotta watch those giraffes!! Did
he actually straddle your vehicle? (Hmm. Why do I assume it was a "he"?)

I haven't a clue why you assumed that!  Because it wasn't, and no, she did
not straddle the vehicle.  They are allowed to be fed by the public and she
was just checking out if we were one of those that bought food for the
ungulates at inflated prices!  The smaller antelope types just look in the
side window but being 18-20 feet high her only option was to introduce
herself through the sunroof.  I was amazed at the amount of drool she
generated ;-)  We were soaked.  We didn't mind.  The drool was all over the
car too.  Kirsty said, as we drove home "No-one will believe I need to wash
my car to get giraffe slobber off it."

<blush> A different inference from the word "dribble."

(In light of your prior comments about the tiger...)

Oh, I forgot to say in my previous reply, it was actually the tigress that
sprayed us!   Obviously a girl with attitude;  they probably get fed up with
being looked at all the time.

I LOVE giraffes.  They are so beautiful.  Their movements are so
awkwardly graceful. and they have those big, beautiful eyes.  I think
of a children's book I had when I was little, about a giraffe named
Alice. ;)

There are giraffes at the Bronx Zoo, and although the public is not
permitted to feed them, they are always adorably curious to see who
has come to see them.

I agree, they are very beautiful.  Eyelashes to die for too ;-)  It is a
wonder to me that an animal built like that survives, it's so difficult for
them to drink, and in the wild they are very vulnerable to predators whilst
doing so.

At this park you can buy a very small bag of food to feed the more
friendlies like giraffe and the numerous types of antelopes/deer.  I suppose
the bag is so small so that the animals will not get overfed no matter how
many visitors feed them.
I decided I didn't need to help the safari park out with their food bill,
after it cost us almost $20 each to get in.  How clever of them, not only
get an admission fee, but charge the public for feeding their animals!
Having said that, it must cost a lot to run, and I could see that they did
their best to provide as natural conditions as they could.  Like the tigers
having a pool and extensive fields for the ungulates, not quite like Africa,
but not bad.
There is nothing to be done to make it similar for the African hunting dogs
that they have.  All in beautiful condition.  It's obviously not possible to
let them roam through the park, hunting the other "exhibits."

I love the different patterns of coat they have.  There were only a few
places in the park where we were instructed to keep our car windows and
sunroof shut.  Big cats, obviously, and wolves. Also the African hunting
dogs.  They didn't look as if they would spring on to our car, rip the
windows out and go for our throats.  However, to be fair, I do know that
they are awful predators in a group and can pretty well run down and kill
anything.

Sounds like a really nice day.

At Marine World/Africa USA about 60 miles from here they have tigers (some
white, some like platinum blondes and some normal) and a giraffe enclosure
were you can feed the giraffe.  They have posted feeding times and the first
fifteen or so people are given vegetables to feed them.  There is a big
platform for the visitors so you see then and feed them at their eye level.

I can spend half the day there.
