Marina - 05 Jun 2007 18:03 GMT Someone on my translators' e-mail list posted a web site with quotes, and of course I had to check out the cat quotes. Some I've seen before, others I haven't:

I especially like this one:
A cat pours his body on the floor like water. ~William Lyon Phelps
I guess this one explains why I am always photographing my cats:
Like a graceful vase, a cat, even when motionless, seems to flow. ~George F. Will
This one could be rpca's motto:
People meeting for the first time suddenly relax if they find they both have cats. And plunge into anecdote. ~Charlotte Gray
... or this one :P :
There is, incidentally, no way of talking about cats that enables one to come off as a sane person. ~Dan Greenberg

It's so true - I do feel an instant affinity for cat lovers, no matter what else may be true about them.
> There is, incidentally, no way of talking about cats that enables one to > come off as a sane person. ~Dan Greenberg In which case, I and my entire family are all insane. But I guess I knew that.
One thing that charms the pants off me is the fact that my dad, who I remember as being the baddie in my cat-loving family, has now become a Cat Guy (male counterpart to "cat lady"). During my childhood, we always took in strays. Dad was outnumbered on this, but he would occasionally put his foot down and make us take a bunch to the shelter. :( He would be the one to say no, we couldn't keep the kitty who just showed up at our door.
His current in-house count: 3. That doesn't seem so extreme, but when I was growing up, 3 was definitely pushing his limits. Now, he's paid to have the neighborhood stray spayed so she wouldn't keep cranking out litters. (He has since taken her in permanently.) Whenever we have a long conversation, it eventually gets around to his cat stories.
I never used to get along with dad, but we're working on it. And now we can bond on cat-adoration.

She'd had a d*g when she was a girl. But she has taken on the role of Grandmeowmie admirably. After all, she has nine furry grandchildren in addition to the three bare ones.

Here's a quote: You have never been loved until you have been loved by a cat. -??

I'm sure I come off as a bit, um, "off", especially if I'm at a social event, and start pulling out my cat photos to show people.

One time I was at the doctor - she had finished the exam, and we were back in her office, discussing tests or medicine or something. At some point, cats were mentioned, and the next thing I knew, she was whipping out her wallet to show me her kitty pictures! :)
