Mischief - 04 Jun 2007 04:47 GMT
I came into work on Thursday and saw a kitten in a cage.  As I opened
the cage to clean it and replace the food and water, the bitty hissed
at me.

His name is Nick.  And he was found under a car on Tuesday.

A man was walking to his car as saw people peeking under it.  When he
asked what was going on, the people said, "Don't start your car,
there's a kitten under it!"

Under the car was a frightened kitten and next to him was another
kitten, but this one was dead.

By the time i came in on Thursday, the kitten had been examined,
poked, prodded, bathed, tested and de-fleaed, but he was QUITE scared.

And apparently hadn't been eating, which was why he was still in the
clinic.  The man was a lawyer and was supposed to pick him up on
Thursday night, but he's a lawyer who works in downtown LA so he
couldn't get back.  The man was interested in adopting the kitten.
His 5 year old daughter liked the kitten too.  I met them on Friday
and it sounded very promising.

In the meantime, the bitty and I got quite close.  I started calling
him Stinky Nick, cause he would poop in his box and then step in it so
I would have to give him a bath, and the poops were VERY smelly.

By Saturday the kitten had his appetite back and started pouncing on
invisible things in the cage.  The man still hadn't picked him up and
i was started to get the impression there was some hesistation.

Well I wasn't about to let this bitty sit alone in the cage all
weekend.  I finally touched bases with the man on Saturday and he paid
his bill.  He said he and his wife were going out tonight and he
didn't want the kitten to be home alone with his daugther and the
babysitter without supervision.

I told him I would be willing to foster the bitty until the next
day.

Well I then found out that the man and his family lived literally a
two minute walk from the vet clinic.  I came in for Sunday treatments
today and brought the bitty to the man's house.

The man was excited but upon meeting his wife i got the impression
that she wasn't too keen on the idea of adopting a kitten.  We briefly
chatted and the man said he woudln't be able to keep the kitten.

After speaking with them i got the whole story from the wife.  While
the man was delighted with the idea of a kitten, the wife told me that
the young daughter did suffer from allergies and she wasn't sure how
she would react to a kitten.  Apparently they also have a baby too and
the nanny is also allergic.

Ahh................

Ah well......

So now i have a bitty who is zooming around the cat tree and trying to
beat the snot out of the bells on shoelaces that are hanging down.
He's also trying to kill my tennis shoe.

Mischief, Mayhem and Imp?  None of them are happy.

For a bit, Mischief would purposely hover on the desk or cat tree, and
just GROWL at little Nick.  Imp would walk up and sniff, but as soon
as Nick turned towards him Imp would hiss.  And when I put Nick on the
bed, Mayhem became very very unhappy.

They are silently putting up with him.  Nick is prancing about and
Mischief is at the top of her tree trying to ignore the prancing of
this bitty running in circles, killing my shoe, killing a toy mouse,
batting a ball and then back to running in circles again.

So this little bitty is in need of a home.  hehehehehe

Anyone want a bitty?

OMG he is so cute! Is going to be a beauty too. Too bad about the
family. I think the man is probably the one who wanted a kitty. I feel
bad for him. My goodness he is just a sweetie though!!

Sorry Freudian slip

I am not sure if I intended to write

"He is a very pretty kitty"

or

"She has a very pretty kitty"

Through both are true

Nick was the name the little girl gave him.  She called him Nick Nick

I'm calling him Stinky Nick, because his poops are SOOOOO smelly  the
ionizing fan on the automated litter box is crying for mercy.

And fyi, I'm FOSTERING!!!!!

I've been assuming "Nick" as "Full of the old....", but that
may not be as common a saying nowadays as it used to be.
(But if you name a cat "Devil" or "Imp", what can you expect?)

Purrs for his RB littermate.  Nick must think he's in heaven, to be
with lots of toys, food, and friends, all in a safe, warm place.

He has unusual markings too.  He looks liks some kind of a
colorpointed tuxedo.  Very cute.

Can I be the first one to congratulate you on your newest owner? LOL. He
looks like a total hoolikitten, and 'Nick' is a fine name with your crew, if
you consider 'Old Nick' is an English appellation for 'Devil'.

He *does* look like a total hoolikitten. The photos where you can see his
face - all that attitude! I think he'd do fine with your bunch, but maybe
*they* wouldn't!

He figured out how to get out of the big plastic box so obviously he's a
hoolikitten!

Yeah that box is for him to sleep in cause I don't want him running
around when I'm asleep.

I have the lid on at a slight angle for air and I've found a use for
my Complete Works of Shakespeare book.

As far as being a hoolikitten, the hard part right now is keeping him
out from under my desk, cause he thinks all the cords are a JUNGLE GYM
WITH ROPES AND VINES.

In the whole time i've been writing this, i've had to scruff him FOUR
times and drag him out from behind all the power cords.

Uh oh,  Mischief is growling at him and cornering him.   Like that is
really gonna teach him.

LMHO!

Of course, I shouldn't laugh TOO loudly... Melody and Harmony played a
game of "Chase My Sister", apparently including a dash behind my
computer desk, back in the day. I presume that they're the reason the
monitor cord got loosened just enough so that the screen kept
switching on and off at random times. I thought the freaking monitor
was in need of repair or replacement. THANK GOODNESS I had the
presence of mind to double-check all my connections before hauling any
equipment to be fixed. How embarrassing would THAT have been, to bring
in a monitor in perfect working order?

So even though Nick is a wee little (and did I mention UTTERLY
ADORABLE) kitty, you know to make sure all the wires, cables and cords
are plugged in at both ends, should any pieces of equipment decide to
suddenly stop working as they should.

He's a cutie. I hope he scores some new pet humans who spoil him
rotten.

About as embarrassing as the time I took my dual cassette
VCR in for repair because it wouldn't play, only to discover
that the cassette was in Deck 2, and I'd been trying to play
Deck 1!

actually no i didn't know that.

I was thinking of a name for him to suit with the theme, but so far I
can't seem to find one that suits him.  Stinky is the first thing I
could think of.  So Stinky Nick seems to be working so far.

Pretty close to how my Stinky got his name.  Does this make Stinky his

Pretty close to how Stinky got his name. ;)  Get a few meals in him
and that will subside, but you know that. ;)

(snip story of Nick terrorizing household) Well, he recovered from his
