Almost had a Ping-Brother (this would make cat #13)

Magic Mood Jeep - 29 May 2007 00:24 GMT Came home from some errands - and heard a cat meowing, loudly. Followed the sound to the edge of our back yard. The people behind us have built a kid's playhouse of sorts in the back corner of their yard, and it's a raised one - on stilts. The dad uses the lower area to store gardening tools.
Anyway, on the steps that they built for the kids to get into the playhouse, is a Siamese, yeowling for attention. A friendly Siamese, and he wants skritchin' - NOW!
DH runs inside and checks for Ping - he's napping on the bed. About that time the neighbors come out, and I ask if it's their cat - they said no, he'd been hanging around for a couple of days - did we want it????
Not knowing where to keep a 13th cat, I decline - one of his older kids brings out some cold cuts for the cat (ick). I go back and get something better - a scoop of kitty-kibble!
#13, whom DH is calling Pong (to go with Ping - groan), darts away from me when I bring the kibble out - but not too far.
When I check later, no "Pong", and also no kibble.

In the opera (from which I gather you took Ping's name) there are THREE characters: Ping, Pang & Pong. It's probably bad luck to give a cat one name in a series. (Unless you WANT the whole set!)

(Unless you WANT the whole set!) Ping was actually named for Mulan's alter ego in the Disney animated movie. We had watched it the night before he (rather noisily) arrived.
Anyone remember the two Siamese in Disney's /Lady and the Tramp/? Si and Am????

I figure if a new unwanted cat shows up it's meant for me!
One of my Japanese friends and her daughter went on holiday for a month in the States. When she got back to what she fondly believed was 2 cats, she found her parents (she and dd live on the second floor of their house) had "felt sorry for" a momcat with 4 kittens, so now she has 7.
If you count all the cats that think they belong to me, I have 7, as well. Or was it 8?
They say hi to yours. All of them!

Magic Mood Jeep - 30 May 2007 12:33 GMT "Pong" came back, hung around our picnic table all day yesterday. So now he is ensconced on our (enclosed) front porch with food, water & litter. He's been frontlined. Thankfully, he's not shy about skritchies.
It's been pretty warm here, so we have the door between the house and the front porch opened, with a screen door closed. Bam-Bam and Barney were curious, so was Tennessee. Betty is running around with puffy tail (when she dares come out from behind the sofa), Ernie, Mimi, Moe, Rosie and Ping could care less. Weebs is leery. Lizzie hasn't shown much interest. Actually, Ping is more like "What am I doing on the front porch? We don't need another me, do we?"
Have an email to one of the Humane Association workers to see if there's a Siamese rescue hereabouts.
DH is also going to ask a co-worker if one of her adult kids wants a Siamese.

Magic Mood Jeep - 30 May 2007 18:44 GMT Went to the local shelter, "Pong" has no chip. Also doesn't like carriers - he did his Siamese Scream all the way there and back. He has been entered as a 'found pet', and we will be looking for a home for him. DH had me take some pictures and email them to his work, and he will see if the co-worker's kid wants him.

Am I imagining, or is he darker than Ping? Pointy-kitties get darker and more distinct markings as they mature. I think that Ping is actually darker than Pong, especially around the face and ears.

Enfilade - 31 May 2007 12:45 GMT He's so striking!
I would love to have a Siamese some day. They're beautiful and I, ah, appreciate the personality. But I don't see myself buying one...I'd have to adopt or find one. And you've found two now!

Enfilade - 01 Jun 2007 01:42 GMT > They are surprisingly easy to find at shelters. But, perhaps I will find one when the time is right.
I'm also reluctant to pass over some loving mixed-breed because "I WANNA MEEZER"; it's like saying "I only want a redheaded daughter".
On the other hand, I've got four moggies now, and I can deal with meezer 'tude (it can't be half as bad as Nox.)

jofirey - 01 Jun 2007 04:19 GMT >> They are surprisingly easy to find at shelters. I suspect that not >> everyone [quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > > --Fil To me wanting a meezer in addition to the moggies is more like wanting a dog as well as a cat. The differences between say a Persian cat and a Siamese are as big as the differences between a cat and a dog.
Its more like, I have three daughters. A son would be nice. Or in my case I have five grandsons. I would love another grandson. But I hope its a girl anyway.

Stormmee - 30 May 2007 14:59 GMT I feel your pain, currently we have a cat in the kitty suite, he is temporarily patch, white with a few brown spots, a pink nose, all of his manly decorations and a paid vet bill of $120.00 to get wormed, tested and meds for a bite on his leg, blessedly the vet has a friend who is currently wanting a youngish cat so he might get a home quick, very nice cat, good temperament and loud purr, Lee

Stormmee - 30 May 2007 15:06 GMT and was really good at hiding them until we got to the vet, he is a very sweet cat, about 2 or 3 months ago we fed him a can of food but couldn't catch him, at that time the big concern was that he was a female and the very last thing we need is another breeding queen running lose, Lee

Once I'd decided to keep her, but before I could get her to the vet, I mentioned at the office I'd been adopted by a female kitty. One of the guys asked, "How do you know it's a female?" Um, she's missing a few parts. And she was, not just the "manly decorations". She wasn't a kitten so it was pretty apparent. And since she'd been front-declawed (the bastards!) I figured she'd probably already been spayed. I was right.
On the flip side, another co-worker adopted a couple of kittens from the same litter. She named them Lucy & Ethel after the old 'I Love Lucy' show because Lucy was an orange tabby and Ethel had white fur. At first glance even the vet thought they were both female kittens. After a few weeks, however, those dangly bits decided to drop and Ethel turned into Fred! :D
