A wild leopard apparently jumped through the window of this man's house (in
Israel) and hopped into bed with his sleeping family.  He wrestled it to the
floor and held it there for 20 minutes while he waited for help to arrive!

This made me laugh:

As a nature guide, he said, he was familiar with animals and did his
best to hold down the leopard without harming it. He said he took it
all in stride, "but the kids were excited."

This part made *me* laugh:

"Du Mosch's pet cat was in the bed with him at the time, along with his
young daughter who had been frightened by a mosquito in her own room."

She crawls in with daddy because she's afraid of a mosquito, and look
what shows up there!

Poor thing. I also hope they give it some food before letting it go.
He/she is beautiful!

Yeah, but you could think of it this way: She sure picked a safe place
because her dad isn't even cowed by a puma, let alone a mosquito.

Yeah, imagine the size of the lamp that kitty could tip over!

He was better off with a leopard, probably, than he would have been
with a puma. In any case, it all worked out pretty well. I liked the
part where the official said that leopards had been spotted recently
in several areas. Leopards are ALWAYS spotted, just not often seen.

Strictly speaking leopards are spotted but you can't always see the spots.
What many people confuse with black panthers are actually black leopards.
The spots are there, you just can't see them very well.  There are a couple
such "cats" at the Memphis zoo; like many others I thought they were
panthers until I read the plaquard by their habitat.

That is because "panther" is just another word for "leopard," although
more often used for the black color variety. "Panther" is also used on
occasion for the puma, couger or mountain lion, although I think it
already has too many names. I have also heard that some people refer
to jaguars as panthers, although the Spanish conquerers helpfully
named them "tigres" or tigers.

Oddly enough, Germany's most recent tank is the Leopard II and there
was a Leopard I. There was also a Panther during WWII. I don't know if
they use the same word in German or if there is a separate word in
German or what animals are covered by it.

Wasn't there a "Panzer Division"? I'd guess that means panther.

No, it means armor. There were lots of panzer divisions but only a few
were outfitted with panthers, which was good s it was one great tank.
I have to google sometime to see if they use the same German word for
leopard and panther but I am too busy with the cats.

I will name the next tank I design the Himalayan and the one after
that the Siamese. THAT will scare my enemies.

I'm not a history buff, and I've never heard of Panzer Division.
However, there used to be a queer punk rock group called "Pansy
Division." :)

Poor leopard!  I hope they gave it a good meal before releasing it into the
wild.

Just so it didn't snack on one of the kids! ;-)

I hope so, too.  It sounded like the poor thing was close to starvation.
This didn't sound like an attack -- probably just a desperate attempt for
some shelter.  At the same time, *I* would be in a panic if a leopard jumped
onto my bed!  So would my *much smaller* furry friends.

I read the article in my morning paper - apparently the leopard was
after the house cat in the bed for a small meal...

This morning's news report said the leopard was sick and it is believed it
was trying to get to the pet cat that was on the bed.  Fortunately, the
leopard did not succeed.  Also fortunately, the leopard is being cared for
and will be released in a more "appropriate" area.

According to the story on the BBC website the leopard will be electronicaly
tagged when it's released.

What a beautiful master   You can tell the leopard is very young  and
actually fragile  I hope the oversized furball is fine He/she did not look
in the best of health  and also must have been associated with humans to
even jump into the window or was desperate.  The man was lucky and so was
the leopard I hope for a full recovery for the lost master

Here's hoping that the leopard is treated and able to be released back
into the wild, strong enough that it doesn't need to adopt any more
humans to take care of it.

LOL! I thought that was amusing, too. :o)

I'm glad everyone came out of this episode in one piece. Our leopard
friend may have used one of its nine lives by breaking into a human
dwelling, but with any luck the vet(s) will be able to treat it and
give it a chance at good health in its remaining eight lives.

I seem to remember reading that the leopard was old, not young. But you're
right that it was also ill, as well as starving. :(

It sure is very cute looking.
