lewe - 28 May 2007 08:08 GMT left them at TED's this morning. They had their yearly check up on Friday and both have signs of FORL on one tooth each. So back in today for full checkup and to have the bad teeth pulled and what else is needed to be done.
The miserable pair asked to let you all know, even if I'm a lousy catslave-secretary of late ... it's no fun waiting either ... hoping to pick them up by lunch Lena

Purrs that the dentistry won't be too painful (for them or you)
Yowie [1] Shmogg agrees that it is great to see you.
lewe - 28 May 2007 22:33 GMT thanks, they both seemed ok considering ..
Only the red one ended up needing to have a tooth removed because of FORL, they also got one little bitty one because it was not useful and not in a good spot.
Turned out the grey one didn't have any FORL, only some plaque bother quite close to the gum which made it look like it, other than that she didn't have much plaque either. Neither of them have had teeth problems before, Bono had his teeth cleaned a little a couple of years ago when he had the small op to fix his broken claw.
less work than expected so at little a bit smaller bill than I was preparing for ...
our best skritches and purrs for The Super-Schmogg and the rest of your furry and bare ones! Lena

Bono was reported not being very happy with TED and her assistant "he thinks we're so mean" - and was still growling, even if very quietly, when they brought the cats out to me and purring/shivering too. don't know if he was in pain, he had gotten something against pain because of the extraction, anyway he soon settled so maybe he was mostly upset and scared. Good thing with this pair is they bounce back rather quickly.

Shivering is normal after a general anaesthetic, it lowers the body temperature and it takes a while to get up to normal again. I'm glad they're fine. Tweed

I got to pick them up at lunch-time, quick service. =) I actually am around, skimming the headers most days - but not really managing to read more thoroughly or post. Just trying to keep T&B up to speed on whom to Purr for ... Too much work and things ... just a few more weeks of struggle before Midsummer and the lake ... preparing for the island soon? skritches ti Cal & Mir - RB-purrs too, saw it was a sad anniversary recently Lena

Marina - 29 May 2007 03:35 GMT > Midsummer and the lake ... > preparing for the island soon? > skritches ti Cal & Mir - RB-purrs too, saw it was a sad anniversary recently I start my holiday a week after Midsummer, but I'm not sure when I can go to the island, because of some transportation problems (my sister and my brother, who drive the big boat, are not there at the same time as me, and the small boat that I can drive is out of order). I hope we'll be able to spend at least a little time out there this summer. Have to have some means of transportation, though, or how would Mir get her fresh meat every day? ;)

Jack Campin - bogus address - 28 May 2007 22:50 GMT > both have signs of FORL on one tooth each FORL? Is that the condition where the teeth decalcify so it looks like they're badly decayed? What does the acronym stand for?

What does the acronym stand for? FORL - Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions, sometimes referred to as 'neck lesions' and some other names I don't recall right now. as I understand it it's like the tooth "withering" and eventually exposing the 'pulp', causing pain (sorry, I read about it in Swedish and am not to sure about the English here but I hope you understand what I'm getting at). Not the 'normal' decay/bacteria, infection or inflammation. Seems like they are still trying to figure it out properly but I saw somewhere it was said that it might be the something like what happens with the baby teeth. anyway calcification I think happens with the root of the tooth somehow and complicates things. I've also seen research mentioned that suggests it is occurring more and more, and if I understand correctly only in cats.

ollie2 - 28 May 2007 23:36 GMT Purrs and hugs to Theo and Bono, I hate the dentist too. Our latest trip is to China - a cruise along the Yangtse river and then for a week in Bangkok.

I do look forward to seeing the pics ... You are such great travellers you and John, I don't know how you even come up with all the different ideas for trips. It's not like you do the same thing over and over .. purrs from T&B for their favourite NZ auntie! Lena

Any ideas why the incidence might be increasing? Something in catfood, presumably.
