jmcquown - 27 May 2007 13:41 GMT Sorry, but school is definitely OUT and maybe some of you folks who use gmail could switch to something else! I just can't deal with the crap right now.
Persia slept cuddled up to me last night. And I applied for a job as a receptionist at her vets' office.

Good luck.

Especially since I love animals and wouldn't have a problem learning the billing/accounting computer system. Plus, these people are actually *people*. They are only open every other Saturday until noon because, as their recorded message states, they like their employees to also have time to spend with their families. They refer emergencies to the 24/7 animal hospital across the street. And they love Persia and Peaches!

Marina - 28 May 2007 04:44 GMT > It sounds ideal. Good vibes heading your way. (I guess, as they say around > here, "Purrs heading your way." hee hee. I still think it's "cutesy".) The purrs thing is based on a study that showed that cats can heal small injuries (to themselves) by purring. Apparently, the frequency of purring is just right for setting broken bones... or something to that effect. And of course, we all know how soothing and healing a purring cat pressed up against you can feel. :)
In "Oryx & Crake" by Margaret Atwood, there is a genetically engineered race of people who have been given the ability to purr and they use it to heal each other. Great book all around.

I knew nothing about the study you cited (and I call myself a cat person!) or that purring can actually help to heal. As for knowing how a purring cat feels or sounds to me, yes: at least I'm *that* wise.
I used to read Margaret Atwood, but I think she got too ... I don't know ... something ... for me and I haven't read her for a while. I'll look into "O&C".
So, I've learned something today. And it's early! Now I don't have to worry about bad epihanies. (Learn One Thing Every Day.) I have the whole day to be a slug! (It's a holiday here.)

Well, keep in mind it is the cats doing the purring (I think so anyway)
And there is nothing cutsey about the rumble some of these guys generate. They really are good vibrations.
Isn't it one of Lori's cats that is a master purrer?
One of the sounds I truly loved to get back when I had my ear implant.

I would miss it too, even though Ketzl has never rumbled. It's usually kind of faint... I think, maybe, that makes it all the more precious when I hear it. Definitely a good vibration.
Lately I've noticed he starts purring before he even reaches me... he starts in mid-leap sometimes, or from the other end of the bed or sofa as he approaches, and by the time he's settled down, he's going full force, soft as it is.
Now, thanks to your and Marina's posts, I'll start soaking up the vibes when I hear it.

I hadn't even thought of it, really. Persia's r/x food is expensive and the Hill's Science Diet division doesn't have any more coupons to offer me (I check with them via email every few months).

The toys are primarily big squeaky things for dogs. There just isn't much at all for kitties. In fact, most of the stuff for kitties is actually more for humans to enjoy - decorated food bowls and things like that. What, no glitter balls? Crinkly mylar balls? Feathers?! Even the pet tag selection (which they will have engraved for you) are geared towards dogs, i.e. shaped like bones, etc.

Some friends of mine bought a squeaky rubber head of Margaret Thatcher for their dogs to chew on. One bite and they were terrified of it.

jofirey - 30 May 2007 18:15 GMT > Maybe I could persuade the office manager, who orders the small selection > of [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > Jill We have a big problem with pet toys for Kayla. And she really isn't that big a dog at thirty pounds. She loves squeek type toys. Only the squeeker drives her crazy. She must kill the squeeker. Which involves unstuffing the toy. Everywhere. We just buy her childrens stuffed animals at Kohls. Cheaper and she doesn't feel the need to tear them apart right away.
Tennis balls and racquet balls are also way cheaper and last longer from the sporting goods department of Wal-Mart or Target. The inexpensive ones in the net bags.
