Poor boy has had more problems. She took him in because he was moaning
and he seemed to be stopped up with hair. THey gave him and enema and I
guess he was Really full but that night he was very restless and meowed
and moaned all night so she took him back the next day (yesterday) and
they took an xray. There was gas and it was not moving at all. There
appeared to be an area of thickened intestine and maybe an obstruction.
They kept him and gave him another enema and laxative and subq's hoping
to move it along. In the morning xrays show no real change, so they
operated.

The vet tried to call my mom but her stupid cell phone isn't working
right and the home phone was busy. I had talked to the vet yesterday
because mom just has trouble taking everything in when she is upset.
Since she couldn't get my mom she called me. He came out of surgery OK,
but she found no obstruction. There is just no motility right now. She
squeezed out the trapped gas. She took biopsies of the intestine in two
places, biopsy of the stomach and of the liver. She is concerned the
liver was a bit off color, although the blood work didn't show anything
off with the liver enzymes. She did not find any masses or obvious cell
changing. She would still be concerned a bit about lymphoma. Right now,
she says she is inclined to think possible IBD or IBD complicated with
megacolon even though he is young for megacolon. Mostly I am writing
this here too so I can remember what to tell mom. They do have someone
there 24/7 so that is good. SHe will probably start pushing soft food a
bit early because she is concerned about that off color liver and
Hepatic Lipidosis. I just don't know what to think. Poor boy. It is
good that she got all those biopsies though. I don't think you can
usually get a good diagnosis without them. Of course, being a holiday
weekend the biopsies won't go out until Tuesday. Grrr. Why does this
stuff always happen around a holiday!!! Argh. It actually would have
been easier had she found an obstruction, that is for sure
But it is good she didn't get in there and see rampant cancer of some
kind. This is going to be VERY hard on my mom though.

She was frustrated the vet didn't get her. She is very upset. I tried
to explain what IBD and megacolon are, and she thinks it means he will
not have a quality life, but I tried to explain that is not so. And we
aren't sure yet what is up until we get the tests back. It's just all
so frustrating. Iknow she will have to force feed him and I am worried
about that. This is just so very depressing.

Poor boy, indeed. Lots of purrs that the test show up negative for
everything nasty and that it was just a case of gas that will not
repeat. You can't help but wonder, of course, where it came from and why
it wouldn't move. Purrs for you and your mom too. This must be bringing
back bad memories.

It does. I keep thinking it must be better because Tycho can come home,
but when I tried to express that to mom I started crying and that upset
her. I just hope he heals up fine. It's bound to be more than just gas
(he seems to have some reoccurance of this.) I know that it is
upsetting he had surgery "for nothing" so to speak but I tried to tell
her that biopsies are really making it a good thing. I sure hope
whatever it is there is a firm diagnosis so that there isn't a bunch of
guessing involved.

Mom visited him today. He seemed pretty perky although I don't think he
has eaten yet. I really really hope he starts eating on his own. She
combed him and he sat on her lap for quite a while, then he wanted down
and he walke all around the room. She has to call tomorrow to see if he
can come home yet. I think she was feeling a it better after the visit.

Purrs for Tycho!  He does have his share of problems, and it was nice
of you to help out his slave, as usual.

Poor Tycho! :(  I once had a severe attack of constipation and trapped
gas - it is *not fun*.

Purrs for Tycho *and* for your mom, who sounds like she's not coping
very easily! I hope everything turns out OK.

{{{{{{Karen}}}}}} and hugs for your mom, too.

I hope they find out quickly what the problem is, and that it is IBD or
something like that she *can* deal with.
