OK, you all know the problems I had with my last job (knee-lenght skirts too
short, can't chew on coffee stirrers, can't send birthday cards, etc.)
Every time I turned around the HR director was calling me into his office to
tell me about another problem I was causing.

Well I've been at this new job for 5 weeks temp and 1.5 weeks permanent and
just now one of my "associates" (they don't call them bosses here) came to
my cubicle and said, "This may sound strange, but I need to talk to you
about something."  'Ohmygawd, here we go again,' I thought.  She squatted
down next to my chair and said, "You know we're an HR firm, and I'm in
charge of the 401(k) plans for our clients... I just wanted to let you know
that our company has the best matching-fund 401(k) plan in the industry.  I
don't know if you've had time yet to read our benefits package (it's about
400 pages long!!), but I just wanted to let you know that if you have any
questions about it, please feel free to come ask me and I can tell you
anything you need to know.  We're really concerned that all of our
associates have a secure retirement."

Oh my, such a serious "talk" from my boss!!!  LOL!  And this is right after
the boss of the whole Retirement team came to tell me that the PowerPoint
presentation that I made for him got lots of good comments and was really
helpful - and then he went to tell that to *his* boss and to my immediate
supervisor!

Did I die and go to heaven???!!!  Or did I just finally get finished paying
my dues for 35 years of sucky jobs!!?

And how is heaven? Sounds great from here! Congratulations! The Cat

Lucky you!

Wow, that is wonderful, and you are very lucky to have found a job like
that.

It's positively un-American, but by all means, enjoy it to the hilt!

Put in at least as much as your company will match, it's free money!
Then put in as much more as you can afford. :)

It's karma dear. You most certainly deserved a break.

Don't pinch yourself too hard.  It's for real.  We knew you were worth
every penny they were paying you (and more).

Purring that it continues to go so well for you.

We're really pleased for you - long may it last :)

Reminds me of a few genuine '80's UK work anecdotes showing things here
aren't all that different to the US:

"If your boss or colleague put an arm around your shoulder, remember: it
isn't friendship, they're looking for a soft spot to stick the knife".

"I have some good news and bad news for you: the good is that our retirement
plan is one of the best in the industry - the bad is that for you it kicks
in tomorrow, you're being retired as of now".

"Your job's being transferred to Central London - if you want to be employed
tomorrow you'd better be there doing it."

"Congratulations, you've interviewed so well as our potential new PR manager
that we're hiring you here and now. Your first job is to tell the other 4
applicants still waiting to be seen that they can go home and that the
expenses we were going to pay them for coming for interview won't now be
paid".

Purrs!

I am *so* happy for you.  You deserve to be appreciated.  I hope this job
lasts.
