Remembering Nikki

Marina - 22 May 2007 05:18 GMT
Two years ago today, Nikki left us for happier hunting grounds.

I don't know if it's due to being ill the last few weeks, or just
because I've slept much more than usual, but I've been having very vivid
dreams about Nikki and Frank lately. Every time I've taken a nap and
every night, I've dreamed about one or the other, or both. The dreams
are lovely, but I wake up missing my old friends all over again.

The other night, I dreamed that we were in a very nice place, with old
houses, painted red or yellow, around a very lush and green garden. The
sun was shining. Frank and I were sitting in the grass, watching Nikki
play with another small tuxie girlcat. I said to Frank, I hope she isn't
mean to that cat (Nikki was known for hating all strangers). But I
needn't have worried, because Nikki was playing nicely with the other
cat. Frank and I just sat there and watched them. There were other cats
around too. Frank was purring in the sun.

I just didn't want to wake up from that.

That's such a lovely dream. Sort of a cross between the Rainbow Bridge
and the Island!

I dream about my cats all the time, but not about those who've passed
on.

Purrs for you on this sad anniversary. It's nice that you can remember
them in such nice settings.

I thought so too. The thought even crossed my mind that maybe the other
little tuxie girl was Betty...

Most of the dreams are very nice, like this one. I only remember one bad
dream from a couple of weeks ago. I dreamed I was doing something
completely unrelated (don't remember what) when I suddenly realised I'd
left Frank on the island to fend for himself all winter! I set off to
save him immediately, but everything went wrong and I just couldn't get
there - you know how dreams go when you know you need to do something
and all these obstacles get in your way. I'd sit on the bus and suddenly
realise it was going in a completely wrong direction, the boat engine
wouldn't start, etc.

Finally, I reached the island, and Frank sat there, looking emaciated
and bedraggled and glaring accusingly at me. I exclaimed, 'there you
are! You're still alive! I missed you so much! I'm so sorry I left you!'
He just sort of humphed at me and turned his back, and then I woke up.

Some dreams are like lots of old memories and thoughts stitched
together.

Your post was so beautiful that it made me cry.  I think your dream
was the epitomy of "in loving memory".
I'm off to find Persephone and give her a cuddle in memory of your
special black-and-white cats.

What a lovely dream.  I think when we are ill, or in times of great
stress, we seek and need comfort.  When I have dreamed of my (rainbow)
kitties it has often been during such times.  Who knows, perhaps it is
that their spirits, still connected with ours through time and
distance, feel that dearth.

Dear Nikki and Frank!  They are just letting you know they are always
with you.

My mother and I often discussed whether or not there was an afterlife and
how we could possibly prove it, whichever one of us went first.
We decided that a non-scary way would be best.
I was devastated when she died very suddenly and unexpectedly in 2003.  It
was a couple of years until I had the most wonderful dream when she came
into my bedroom along with one of my RB dogs and we talked.  I thought I was
awake and I was frightened, but she told me not to be, and that she was with
all the RB family.
I like to think that was her way of coming back and maybe that is Nikki &
Frank's way too.  It was very comforting.

Most of the dreams are comforting like that, with just the one upsetting
one (see my reply to Joyce in this thread).

I can't believe it has been two years. In some ways, you are so lucky
to dream of them. I never dream of Grant. I wish I would, I think.

IMHO  That dreams means there is a small tuxedo girl being sent your way.

{{Marina}}  The other day, I came across a photo of Pan sitting on my
bedside table, and I had this huge rush of missing him!  But what a
lovely dream about Frank and Nikki.  I can understand why you didn't
want to wake up!

I don't dream much, or at least not that I remember. But I'm very
likely to wake up with a cat on top of me or right in my face asking
for breakfast.

{{{Marina}}} on the anniversary of Nikki's passing.  What a wonderful
dream - to feel so close to Frank and Nikki again.

Take care,

{{{{{{{Marina}}}}}}}

I know that feeling.  It's hard to wake up, especially if the dream is
vivid and happy.  But I take it as a sign that they are letting us know
that they're okay, which is a good thing.

Purrs for your healing heart.

You always will hold fond memories of them in your heart.  And they came to
you when you were feeling down.  Just more proof that they are watching over
their slaves past present and future :-)
