Heh, thanks to Theresa and the others who identified the bird "grackle" for
me.  I had a bit of fun a short time ago while sitting on the patio.  A pair
of grackles were noisily dive-bombing at something in tandem.  I couldn't
see beyond my patio fence but naturally I thought, ah ha! Cat!  I got up and
looked over the fence (it's only 3 feet tall).  Sure enough, the
across-the-street neighbors' orange tabby was crouched there with eyes wide.
It was quite comical!  It was no doubt lured over since I just refilled my
outdoor bird feeders; they must be nesting in the trees above.

Poor orange puss!  It's always disconcerting when your intended prey
turns around and attacks. ;)

The cat didn't have any opportunity, but they didn't harm the cat.  These
birds mean business! (and I don't blame them).
