How are you now?

Tweed, thanks for asking. I'm still not feeling quite 100 % and too
tired to sit at the computer much, but at least the 'runs' are over. Now
I just have a huge stomach ache that won't go away.

Ouch.  What did the lab results say?  It must have been something pretty bad
to last that long.
Isn't there anything that your doctor can give you for that awful stomach
ache?  Does he know you have this pain?? is more to the point ;-)

The lab results came back negative, i.e. no bacteria or parasites, so it
must have been an uncommonly persistent virus. Nothing to medicate that
with, but then I got severe heartburn, and the doc prescribed a medicine
for that. I now think that medicine caused the tummy ache, because it
contained mannitol, which I'm sensitive to. The doc assured me the
amounts were so small that it wouldn't affect me, but I suspect it did.
I stopped taking the medicine. The tummy ache lasted for 48 hours, but I
think I'm over it now. The heartburn went away on its own.

I'm seeing my own diabetes doctor next week, so I'll discuss it with her
then. I just hope I haven't developed gastroparesis, because then I
won't be able to eat fresh raw veggies or fruit any more! :(((

I must have really missed the news--I'm sorry to hear you've been so
far under the weather, Marina! I hope it's nothing serious, and that
it all clears up soon. Hope it won't wreck your summer on the island,
and further that you'll be back with us! Francesca and Nina are
definitely on purr patrol.

I'm sorry to hear it, Marina. You weren't, by any chance, munching tainted
cat food, were you? :-)

Sorry: I don't mean to make light of it (just trying to cheer you up) but
seriously, it sounds like pretty severe food poisoning.

As Tweed suggested, I hope you're communicating this lingering stomach pain
to your doctor.

<smile> I don't feed my cats commercial cat food, I feed them fresh meat
(and I'm a vegetarian myself, so no, I don't eat the cats' food ;) ).

It sounds that way, but I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary before
this started. I don't eat sea food, I hadn't been travelling, I hadn't
even eaten in a restaurant for months.

I think the doctor caused it (see my reply to Tweed). I'm talking to my
internist later this week.

Can you eat and keep it inside for a few hours? I worry so much because you
have type one diabetes.
It's strange, isn't it?  I have never met you in person and it's unlikely
that I will but I care about you because I've *met* you in this newsgroup.

I can now, but I did go through some rough patches. I was worried I'd
have to go to hospital and be on a drip to keep my BG up, because who
would take care of the cats? I was plotting in my head about asking Mum
and my niece to take turns to look in on them. Luckily, I didn't have to go.

I know, just as I've been worried about you during your medical
problems. Who knows, maybe we'll meet up some time?
