Gilbert O'Sullivan... kilikini found out my great great Scottish grandfather
was born in Ireland!  Then they moved to Kirkintilloch (a sea port) and then
to Glasgow.

My cat grey Persia has that meezer M on her forehead.  And that's where I
kiss her.  She's such a cutie :)

That's one of the "classics" from my era... I can remember countless trips on
the way to the beach with the blasting on the radio.

Oh, and I would guess you're not Catholic (my apologies -- and sympathies --
if you are) because if you were, you would *know*, as I was taught, that The
Madonna was taken by a grey tiger cat and petted its forehead, which is why
they all have that "M" for "Madonna." Oy.

(Unless I'm misinterpreting "meezer." In fact, I have no idea what "meezer"
means. I'm such a newbie!)

Meezer means Siamese. I thought the M on the forehead thing was for tabbies,
though.

I guess several religions have a story relating to the M on a tabby's
forehead. We've often heard the fable about Mohammed on this ng, so I won't
repost that one. And I think there's a story in Confucionism, or maybe it
was Buddhist? Very similar to the Islamic one.

Persia is (her vet guesses) half Russian blue - she's mostly blue and has
the green/gold eyes and half Siamese.  Therefore she has the dark grey M on
her forehead.

Kirkintilloch is nowhere near the sea.  It's a small town north of
Glasgow.  It was a port though - it has a railway station and was
on the Forth and Clyde Canal, so it will have handled a small amount
of waterborne freight (thogh the canal was not very big, it was
hardly in the same league as New Orleans).

I was thinking the same. I sincerely hope she's doing OK.
