Had to drag myself from my sickbed to report this important milestone in
Caliban's life: he has lost his first whisker! At least I haven't found
any before. Now I spotted a big white whisker laying on 'his' hair. My
baby has really grown up now, to lose a whisker! :P

Don't mind me, I can't think straight at the moment. Back to bed. Purrs
to all.

Thanks, Lesley. I'm much better than last week. It's just, I'm missing
all the ESC fever in Helsinki - NOT! :P

Get well soon purrs.  Has Caliban hacked his first hairball yet? ;)

Thanks, Theresa. No, he hasn't. Frank and Nikki used to bring up
hairballs nearly daily, but AFAIK neither of the Mir-a-Cal cats have
hacked a hairball, ever. <knock on wood>

Ok, I guess I'm iggerant: do cats normally lose whiskers occasionally, and is
it a sign of "maturity"?

The reason I ask, I was brushing Ketzl a few days ago and when I looked at
the brush there was this one gorgeous full-length whisker in it. He didn't
wince or anything, so I figured it didn't hurt coming out, nor does he seem
to miss it, but I've been feeling guilty about brushing him "too hard" (I
probably wasn't...) and I never recall seeing dropped whiskers from my other
cats.

Marina, take it slow and get better fast. (Is that virtually impossible?)
This has gone on too long!

I don't know, I just assume they have a certain life span, just like
hair. I've never found any of Caliban's whiskers before, so I thought
maybe that life span is about 2 years. Not that they all fall off at
once, but I did find another one clinging to his side this morning. I
told he's got to stop flinging his whiskers around.

I'm sure you didn't hurt Ketzl. It was probably lose already, and the
brush just pulled it out. Frank and Nikki used to lose whiskers all the
time, but I've never found any of Miranda's. But then, hers are much
shorter and dark grey, so I may just have missed them. They would blend
into most backgrounds.

Thanks, I feel better this morning, but I still have to wait until
tomorrow for the lab results to find out what the problem is.

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes. I'm still a bit too tired to
reply individually.

That sounds like a nasty flu you've got! Hope you feel better soon.

Congrats on Caliban's milestone. I didn't know that kittens didn't lose
whiskers, that it was a sign of maturity.

Oh dear, Marina, I hope you feel better very soon.  What has caused it, do
you know?
I found a whisker last week too.  The very first ever.

The doc will ring me today with the lab report. I do think it's getting
better, slowly. It's gone on for much too long, 11 days. It gets
difficult when you have type I diabetes, because you can't stop taking
insulin, and when you take insulin, you have to eat so you don't get
hypoglycemia. It's been hard to find things to eat that don't just go
straight through. I've mostly been eating yoghurt and bananas, but I've
pretty well had my share of yoghurt and bananas for this lifetime!

If I ever get to that point, then it is time for chicken soup --
Campbells!

Not for Marina, she's a vegetarian.

I hope the doctors have already found out what is wrong with you,
Marina. It's really difficult to eat when you are feeling unwell.
Lots and lots of purrs, best wishes and gentle hugs,
