I'll give the mail carrier the benefit of the doubt on this one. Declawed
cats often bite. Not their fault, they just feel defenseless.
Our neighbor had a rescue that was just plain evil. (Looked very much like
Persia),
Charlie is one of those people that all animals love. That cat would cross
the street to come over to our yard and bite him.
His owners was the only one who could touch him.

I saw the story on the evening news on TV. The cat does look kind of
mean.
While Rusty is normally a docile cat at home, he can get downright
vicious
sometimes when caged at the vet. It was almost like a different cat.
One
time nobody at the vet clinic dared to touch him. They waited till he
was asleep before taking him out of the cage for his shot.
Maybe the cat in this story just doesn't like the mail carrier for
some reason.

I know a perfectly amiable cat who terrorizes a couple of the family's
human relatives. The cousins in question never even touched, much less
abused, the cat, and all anyone could figure out was that it might be due
to a combination of the cat smelling the family d*g on the relatives and
getting upset, and the relatives (nervous around cats anyway) panicking
at the cat's approach.

Reminds me of a few years ago, the case of Kooshi, the tiny black
Israeli cat who supposedly terrorized his housing development. There
was a picture of Kooshi in the New York Times, looking ferocious and
pint-sized. The caption said "Look on Kooshi and be afraid." ;)
This Canadian cat is black too. Perhaps we misjudge the persistence
of the black cat superstition. Turned out that little Kooshi lived in
a development with a lot of Eastern European immigrants with residual
superstitious fears of black cats, and then Kooshi's attitudinous
self-presentation really scared some of them. ;)
