Hi all:-)
as you know, we are owned by 11 cats, which we love dearly. And
because of that, I installed a daily ceremony, which I want to let you
know about:-) But first I have to tell you, that our cats prefer
kibble instead of canned food.
Every night, when I go to bed and placed myself in the middle of the
bed, I call out the magic words, which are: "come here, kitties". As
soon as I call them, all the cats come running like hell to the
bedroom and assemble on my bed.
First there is a little skirmish, because each cat has its place on
the bed, but then, after they sorted it out, they sit there and wait
for me to begin the ceremony:-) I take out the little box, where I
keep the kibble (which they easily could eat at any place in the
house, because it's their regular food!). The cats get excited and
start raising their paws against me but none will leave its spot. Then
I start feeding them in strict rotation.
Each cat waits patiently until it's his turn. In the waiting time,
some of them start grooming it's neighbour, some tap me on my arm,
shoulder, knee or back, eagerly watching, that I keep the order of the
rotation or asking me to hurry up. After having fed 15 pieces of
kibble to each cat, the ceremony ends with the words: "all is eaten
up".
As soon as they hear the dreaded words, they jump from the bed as if I
didn't exist! It hurts, but I love them anyway *g*.

The cats from left to right: back at my pillow is Lady Mortisha, in
front of her sits Smoke, the white one is Chiara, to her right sits
Cottonball next to Rasputin, the silver-tabby at my knee is Bandit,
the black one is Tientje, and behind Tientje Owl is sitting. In this
picture Dax, Sirikit and She are missing. I think, they had important
business to do outside and didn't hear me calling:-)

That's amazing you got eight of them in the picture! Too cute.
Can I steal the ceremony for my nine? ;o-)

That is true:-) I have no picture containing all 11 cats.

Of course you can:-)) I find it quite handy to have such a ceremony.
In case of an emergency, I just call out the magic words and all cats
come and can be brought to safety:-)

That's so cute! Scouty has the nightly ceremony of the brushy-brush...
I pick up the hairbrush and call 'brushy-brush' and she comes running
and jumps onto the bed and lies next to me to be groomed while I'm
watching television. Then she settles down for a cuddle session for
awhile. :)

You are very lucky then:-) I have only to think about grooming the
cats, and they dissapear magically. Although, when I cought one for
grooming, they let it happen without much struggling:-)

thank you for the kind words:-) Indeed we're very proud of them
because each cat has a lovely and unique character. They are our
children:-)

I would not be surprised if they all understood they could get the same
food from their regular dishes but enjoyed the ceremony for the sake of the
"family" event. They are all beautiful but the black one reminds me of my
R.B. Zak who, I miss greatly. Thanks for the story and picture.

Cats just LOVE tradition and ceremonies. =o) I'm sure your clowder
probably knows they're not getting anything except normal kibble to
EAT, it's the ceremony and the contact with Meowmie that they love.
The day just wouldn't feel right to them if they didn't get the
yummie ceremony. =o)
The words my girls react to are "Is it time for Kitty Breakfast?"
asked when I'm about to get up in the morning and feed them. I usually
make a pitstop, although the girls go thundering into the kitchen.
Then they double back and tell me to hurry up.
When I leave for work I tell them "Okay, guard the house. You be good
cat children, mother loves you!"
When I come in the door, both girls are waiting for me by the front
door. I say "Hello Little Girl" to Francesca and "Hello Baby Bird" to
Nina, followed by the magic words "Is it time for Kitty Supper?"

That's true:-) As I answered to ginger-lyn, it comes in handy to have
magic words they all listen to. In case of an emergency I know how to
get all of them into a single room in no time:-)

What a great picture! It reminds me of a candle holder I have that's
a circle of cats, all sitting around and staring at the flame.
Here's a photo:

Sometimes I look at it and think, "No real cats would ever sit like
this." But apparently, your cats do. :)

What a lovely candleholder! Unfortunately we can't burn real candles
here. Our cats tend to hang their whiskers and/or tails in the flame.
We got some LED-candles short time ago. They look like real candles
but can't burn any tails:-) I will post a picture of them later.

That is so sweet! I wonder if Soncek would like such a ceremony too. He
doesn't eat wet food at all unfortunately, but luckily he quite likes
the Hills k/d dry that he has to eat now (k/d wet would be even better
for him, but I cannot bear to force-feed him anymore and he wouldn't
touch it on his own).
Best wishes,
Polonca and Soncek

Hi, Inge. I have a similar thing that happens with my three cats. I
call it the treat game. Just like your cats, mine think it is
special, but it is only their normal kibble. I sit in my computer
chair or stand at one end of the hallway and toss kibble. They try to
chase down each piece like it's the best treat they've ever had:
smacking pieces from mid-air, running into each other, leaping over
one another, skidding across the kitchen floor, and sometimes running
into walls. It is the funniest thing to watch.
