that Ranger set me straight.
Silly me, I had been thinking that the set of stairs between the ground
floor and 2nd floor were just a stairway. If it hadn't been for Ranger, I
never would have realized that it's really a carpeted racetrack.
If Ranger is anywhere near the stairs when Nancy or I are going up or
down, he absolutely MUST race us to the end. He then plops triumphantly on
the final step and grins at us with a quite triumphant look on his face.
The only time that becomes a problem is when one of us is carrying a large
box or piece of furniture up the stairs :)

Silly Daddy! I'm so glad he finally set you straight!
The Princess Rita does that with the hallway. First she meets me at
the door. Then she
howls at me while I open the patio door to let some air in, then she
races me to
the bathroom, which is always the next place to go. She has to get
there first to
reassure me that it's still there and usable, y'know.

Is Princess Rita getting a kitten?

I'm still thinking about it. If a proper kitten comes along, then I'd
certainly consider it. Several friends are on the lookout for me.

Ah, yes, Hugo Katt used to do that. He waited till I was three steps
from the top, then he started from the bottom to pass me before I was
up.
I knew your cats would love the stairs.

The worst is if you're carrying something big *down* the stairs. Then you
definitely don't want a kitty racing you to the finish line - you might
just come in first, if you catch my drift. :)

Cinnamon likes to run up or down the stairs following me. If I'm carrying
something I will start on the stairs and then pause for her to run by. It's
safer that way.

A race is the only thing that will get Woodgie up the stairs when we're
in the basement. If she thinks he can beat me to the top, she'll race
over and head up faster than lightning...
