As usual, I've been lurking rather than posting, but I had to share
this photo with you. Yesterday was a public holiday in Hong Kong, and
I went to Cheung Chau (one of the outlying islands) for a day out.
Outside a small street restaurant, as is common, a man who had just
finished his meal was resting his head on the table and taking a quick
nap. The restaurant's kitten wasn't going to miss an opportunity like
that: hence this photograph...

I tried to pet the kitten, but I'd just finished a big seafood lunch
so it was more interested in licking my fingers.
Cheung Chau is a nice, warm traffic-free island full of seafood
restaurants - quite the perfect place for a kitten to live!

I might be tempted to do that, too! LOL

Sounds like it. I like it when people have "shop cats". Thanks for
sharing!

One of the things I like best about European restaurants is
that unlike the U.S. (and most of the UK) dogs are welcome!
(You seldom even notice them, unless you see their humans
coming in or leaving - the dog lies quietly under the table,
disturbing no one.)

Reminds me of the old joke about the man who walks into a doctor's
office with a duck sitting on his head. THe doctor swallows hard and
says "What can I do for you?" and the duck says, "Doc, can you get
this guy off my @$$?"

How cute! I'd take my kitten (almost a cat at 11 months) to work, but
allergies, both of coworkers and patrons... I used to be badly allergic
to cats, but some good allergy medication and daily interaction with the
allergen helps a lot.

Little one is well on its way to becoming the ultimate shop cat.

Hey, alphonze -- wondered where you were.
Too cute! I have a shoulder cat, who was a shoulder kitten. Arthur as
a kitten loved to crawl up on my shoulder. And he's never outgrown it
(ouch! lol!).

I feel your pain, Ginger-lyn. Caliban is also still a shoulder cat, in
spite of his current size. He just doesn't seem to realise he 'growed
up.' The worst is when he settles down for a nap on my neck.

Likewise with my dear Amelia. I love my dear tortlie ("portly tortie")
girl, but having 18 pounds of kitty-lump riding on your shoulders can get
tiring pretty quickly.

My little Mingus was very good at that. He was never very heavy and
was also really athletic, so he could get up on my shoulder in one
leap or with only a very slight heave-up on the way. BOING! and he'd
be up there looking me in the eye and wanting me to be a tour bus for
a trip round the house.
He was ill for a few weeks before he died - we didn't realize how
serious it was (kidney failure). But he still managed to jump on
my shoulder and purr the night before he died.

Oh I HATE kidney failure. That's what took my tiny Mimi before her
time.

I'm with you. I've lost two to it, and Cosmo has it (although he was
diagnosed with it something like 7 years ago, so I am very lucky). I
know Cosmo's time will come, but I hope he has more time left.

A couple of years ago, I was riding up an escalator in Victoria
Station in London, and I suddenly became aware of not just one, but
TWO leetle tabby kittens looking at the passing scene from the
shoulder of the guy just ahead of me. A look around showed me dozens
of Londoners going up and down the escalator, gazing at the bitties
with adoring eyes. The cute truly conquers all. ;)

Ouch -- that's something Arthur doesn't do, thank heavens. He's too
restless to sleep on my shoulder. But he still likes to go for a
"shoulder ride" just about every day. I'm lucky he "growed up" :-) to
be a lithe, no-fat cat.
