I finally took Shadow, the semi-feral I've been feeding, to the vet to be
neutered. I tried catching him a few weeks ago, he went berserk and bit me.
I left him alone for a while to calm down then he got in a fight with
another cat and got a nasty cut on his head. Obviously he couldn't be
operated on until he was healthy.
I borrowed a trap from the vet last week and have been feeding him in it so
he'd get used to it. Today I set it and caught him, poor thing looked so
bewildered I felt sorry for him. It feels like I've betrayed him but I know
he'll be much better off neutered, maybe he'll even become a house cat. I
shall be on tenterhooks until I bring him home tomorrow, I hope he forgives
me.

It sometimes takes a while, but cats are usually pretty forgiving of people
who want the best for them. I understand your feeling, but you know you
were thinking of his own welfare.

Good for you! He'll thank you in the end, especially if you give him
kitty treats. Almost anything can be forgiven with the proper
application of kitty treats (my friend calls them 'stinky bites')

Forgive? Almost certainly.
Do something annoying to get back at you? You can bank on it.
Still, he's better off. When I think of all the trouble my own. Oh
well.

He *will* forgive you - Boyfie did me! Uneventful snip purrs coming along.
It's the right thing to do, it's just the hardening of the heart to do it,
that's the problem, especially when their confidence is so hard won like
with Shadow and Boyfie.

He'll forgive you. Cats somehow always do, they seem to know you're
helping them.
Adrian, I know this is a lot of trouble you went to, to get the trap,
manage to get
him into it, and transport him to the vet, and pay for his surgery.
Bless you for doing it,
for taking responsibility for the poor stray.

Well done, Adrian! I'm sure he'll be better off. Do you want to keep him
or are you going to try and adopt him out?

I'll keep him if I can. Just had a call from the vet to say the operation
went fine and he' sready to come home.

Great news! He sounds like other feral cats that posters have caught
and turned into cuddlebugs. Like Annie's Rosie, or Julie's Lacey.

Adrian, you are such a good person:-) I really liked reading about
Shadow and all the cats were purring a storm for an uneventful snip -
it seems to have helped:-)
I hope, your masters will accept a new member in your household.
Purrs to you

Concatulation on the successful trap & op, and particularly on your new
owner :)
I know you've been a 3-owner slave before & it worked well, as it does for
me: 2 tend to keep each other company and the third invariable seeks me out
so no-one gets lonely.

I bought shadow home about half an hour ago, he went straight out which
didn't really surprise me he's a creature of habit. I really hope he comes
back again, I think he will, but even if he doesn't he'll be much better
off.
The cost was very reasonable, £30.00 (60.00USD, 45.00EUR) he's actually the
first cat that's arrived entire so I don't know if that's the normal price
or not.

It sounds reasonable to me. The anaesthetic costs quite a bit. When
Boyfriend arrived complete with his nuptials it was ages before he let me
catch him. Months, as he was so shy. As I had no intention of keeping him
at the time, the Cat's Protection League paid for his neuter as a stray, I
only paid £5 towards it.
As he insisted on creeping into my heart I gave the CPL a donation I thought
would cover it.
Shadow will come back for sure. He might sulk a bit is all.
Congratulations for taking an entire tom out of the kitten circle.

He came back later for some supper. I hope as the hormones leave his body
over the next couple of weeks he'll hang around more and maybe one day be a
proper owner.

It's wonderful that he came back. I'm sure he'll decide to stay - he
knows a good slave when he sees one. ;)
I think that was about the same price I paid when Caliban was snipped.

Eighteen months ago when Claws was done here in Cornwall it was £25 (50USD,
37Euros roughly) so it looks about right - much cheaper than for D-things,
IIRC they start at 3x that.
Anyhoo, purrs that Shadow hangs around and integrates himself into your
clowder: he certainly will if he appreciates the good life :)
Cheers

got home!
