How much do your cats eat?

The girls have free access to diet kibble 24/7 in a bulk feeder that
gets refilled about twice a week. Every night I give them some gooshy
food, but I've found that they really don't eat very much, but if I
DON'T give it to them the consequences would be unthinkable (and
they'd have to involve earplugs and bodyarmour because Silver will
meyowl, poke at me, and eventually NIP to try and point out to me that
she's STAAAAAARVING and I'm being a Bad Meowmie!)

I started them out with one ounce of gooshy food each (1/3 of a small
can), but they were leaving too much so I've cut back their rations
and tried to figure out exactly how much they WILL eat, which is
different for each cat, but if the bowls don't look identical it'll be
War again...

Scouty varies in how much she'll have. She hates seafood catfood with
a vengeance and will walk away in disgust if you put it in her bowl,
and she doesn't like beef much better. She doesn't want to see pieces
of anything in her catfood (especially vegetables) or she'll leave the
whole dish. She loves chicken and turkey the best and she'll eat about
3/4 of an ounce of that. If Tessica leaves anything in her dish Scouty
will lick at it and eat a little more, but I think that's a dominance
thing rather than hunger.

Tessica will eat almost anything but she has a very small tummy (and
is very easily distracted) so she only eats about half an ounce before
she goes away. She'd be happy to come back in half an hour and eat a
bit more, but that's never going to happen with Silver around!

And Silver is a greedy pig. She will eat everything you give her, and
anything that the other two reject, no matter WHAT flavour, variety or
consistency it may be. She'd be happy with a full three-ounce can all
to herself, but she's never going to get it! When they're eating I
have to stand over them because if I turn my back for a minute, Silver
will push Tessica out of the way and eat her food, then move on to
Scouty's and neither of them will do anything to try and stop her. :(

So how much do your cats eat?

I'd find that very hard to work out.  It varies a lot seasonally.
The minimum (for five cats) seems to be two tins of wet food a day
and about a pound of dry food a week (Lidl's Opticat when we can
get it, it's one of the few cereal-free dry foods).  But they can
go up to more than double that.  Basically they eat as much as
they want.  None of them ever gets a weight problem (either way).

Most of them are not very active (Splodge and Marblecake excepted).
They very rarely kill anything.

Woodgie is picky. Somedays she's a real chazzah and will eat anything
and everything that is in the least bit edible and comp[lain that there
isn't more. Other days she eats a little of her dry food and leaves the
rest. Books say she should be   eating 3/4 cup in the morning and the
same in the evening...I think she evens out to that. She has more will
power to stoop than me, luckily. Otherwise she'd be a 20 pound kitten.

About ten pounds of kibble and fourteen cans of gooshy food a week.
Plus what they catch and scavenge.  Spooky has lost a lot of teeth, so
I give him a can by himself every evening - he eats one-half to
three=fourths, de[ending on the flavor and how hard other cats are
pressing him (he's on the washer - they are supposed to stay on the
floor and share the other can.  Several of the cats never even seem
interested in the gooshy food.  That's for fifteen cats.

Persia is only allowed 1/2 a cup total of her prescription dry kibble.  She
gets 1/4 a cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening.  And she's *still*
"fluffy" :)

Miranda has remained very lean on 2 x 100 grams of meat per day.
Caliban, on the same amount, has gained nearly a kilo during the past
year, so I've now cut him down to 2 x 70 grams per day.

As much as they choose!  The kibble bowl gets refilled once
a day (it's seldom completely empty).  I got tired of
feeding most of their canned food to the garbage disposer,
so they get canned food once a day, too.  If they like it,
that bowls may be empty by the next day (and the kibble be
nearly full).  If not, they make heavier inroads on the
kibble.  They are never completely without available food -
it's up to them whether they choose to eat it or not.  Their
bones are well-padded, but so long as I can feel their ribs
when I try, I don't worry about "overweight" problems.

Soncek eats about a small fistful of dry food a day (he wouldn't touch
the wet food). He is a nibbler and eats small amounts of food during the
day and night. It's probably good that he nibbles since if he eats too
much too fast he vomits. He weighs 4 kilograms ever since he is an adult
kitty. He has to eat Hills k/d now and seems to like it.
Best wishes,
Polonca and Soncek
