Max, my foster kitty, had to visit the vet last week for a UTI. Max
went from living on his own outdoors (big territory) and being an
intact tom cat, to being neutered and fostered currently in one room.
I think he was having anxiety attacks because he would periodically
climb into my lap, hide his face, and tremble. When I took him to the
vet I talked about this with her and she recommended the Feliway
diffuser.
I had never had experience with the Feliway diffuser, although some
people have written that it was helpful. I remember when Pat moved it
seemed to help her cats adjust. I decided to try it with Max and see
if it would help. After about two days he totally stopped the
trembling in my lap and has started marking around his room with his
face...including marking me. He is still very friendly, although
doesn't climb into my lap as often now. I kind of miss that, but I'm
glad he is more comfortable.
Max fought with other cats outside and did not react well to cats in
the vet hospital, so I wasn't sure if he would have to be an only
cat. Since he is doing better, last night I tried sitting with him in
his room with the door open. Several of my girls came across the
threshold, and Patty even walked around the room. Not too close, but
within a couple of feet. Sabrina and Daisy can be little bitches with
new cat. Not a one hissed or growled, including Max.
Very good sign. I just wanted to share it with you all. The Feliway
seems to be working!
