Gerald and Poppy have gone to a new home, seems they're very happy
there. It's much tidier than our place and might seem a bit boring,
but they've got each other and the new owners dote on them.
So we still have Eccles and Siouxsie, who have calmed down a *bit*
with less siblings to pick fights with, but are still rather scarily
fast and cunning, Eccles in particular (he's tiny but makes up in
brain what he lacks in muscle; those little bluey-brown eyes are
continually on the move tracking everything around him).
The day before they split up, Marion looked over to the loudspeaker
left of our mantelpiece. It's a 1970s-technology enclosure four feet
high with a six-foot potted palm on top of it. Next to the speaker is
a set of boxes of LPs about shoulder-high with my (enormous) Turkish
gypsy bass drum sitting on top.
One kitten was climbing the potted palm while the three others were
scrambling up the cordura case of the drum and rolling it slowly and
inexorably towards the pot.
The drum is now wedged in place with cushions and the potted palm is
out on the patio for the summer.
Incidentally, the sound of a full box of glass Go stones cascading
off a coffee table and over a large Indian brass tray, followed by
a very large number of kitten paws thundering into the distance on
a wooden floor, is kinda awe-inspiring. I think it deserves to be
on a sound effects record.

Tee hee! It's amazing how much noise a cat can make when it CHOOSES to
make it! Who'd a thunk those soft little paws could sound like the
Calgary Stampede?
