I was looking for lyrics for 'The Cat Came Back' but what turned up
was a reference to this CD - Irish Drinking Songs for Cat-lovers...
this guy (who's apparantly pretty talented) has rewritten a whole
passel of traditional tunes with feline lyrics and recorded them...
and listening to the samples they're SO CUTE! I put it on my CD-Baby
wishlist and when I can come up with the cash I'll be buying it...

"The Cat Came Back" sounds like it should be a cute song, but in fact,
it's about a guy who hates this cat, so he keeps killing it in different
ways, but the cat keeps coming back. It's a humorous song, but I hate
hearing about all the nasty thing the guy does.

I'll have to check out that CD, though.

It doesn't have the cat came back on it Joyce... and I didn't want the
song itself either - I just needed the words so I could steal the
melody for a filk parody I was writing last night. :)

I see... what's the filk for? Are you going to a con?

I love filk but don't get much exposure to it. Occasionally
inspiration strikes and I have to write something :P

I found those links too thanks... and I did what I wanted to do with
them which was to check the rhyme scheme and scansion so I could steal
it for something else I was writing - a little piece called 'The Ghost
Came Back'. :)

I was surprised how many versions have grown of that thing.  It is mean
spirited in a way but the cat always wins out so I kind of like that
part.
