A couple of days ago, a little whale swam into our harbor and into a canal. It made a lot of people happy and for a few moments took away the sadness of the VT massacre that had settled around the city. We have sea mammals visit us from time to time with no ill effects-- we had a manatee a couple of years ago, we had a seal in the canal, and another one on a Hudson River pier. But this poor little guy (a 12-foot minke) died yesterday afternoon. Experts say he was probably too young to be away from his mom. Now I'm sad about this, too! WHat a week!
