John Saved Some Kittens!

He lives out in the country but even that (apparently) isn't safe.  He was
driving along a 2 lane road, coming around a sharp curve (he said people
just FLY down that road and whip around the curve).  He saw something in the
opposite lane and wasn't sure at first what it was.  Then he realized it was
a cat nursing two tiny kittens!  He turned around and went back.  Sure
enough there was a car heading very fast towards them in that lane.  He had
to flag them to slow down and go around.

The momma cat had moved the kittens to the very edge of the road but they
were still too close.  Then he saw, down the hill a ways, 2 more kittens
near a burned out tree stump.  He said they were maybe 4 weeks old.  Well,
he picked up the kittens to take them down to the stump to join the others.
He said they were all beautiful light grey kittens.  But he was concerned
about leaving them there.

About that time the old lady who lives across the street came out.  She said
yes, that's a stray but I didn't know she'd had kittens!  So together they
carried the kittens across the road again up near her house.  Momma cat
followed.  Momma cat lets the woman come near her but she wasn't having a
thing to do with John!  He said the woman is going to feed them in the hopes
they won't go out into the road (or across the road) again.  I said I wished
she could trap her after the kittens are weaned and have her spayed.

Anyway, he said they were just sooooo cute, tumbling around, playing and all
in varying shades of light grey.  He said momma cat has an almost
raccoon-like dark mask on her face and is gorgeous.

So he did his good deed for the day.  And at least they will be fed and
maybe not stray too far.

Oh, how wonderful! A big hug and thanks to John for doing this.

I am usually not into too emotional behaviour towards strangers,
but please give John a big kiss on his cheek from me. :-))

Nope, not too emotional.  Imagine the disaster if he'd come along a few
minutes later after that speeding driver had hit them :(  I'll give him a
big kiss on the cheek for you when he comes to visit on May 2nd!

Hooray for John! That was really close. I hope they'll stay out of the road
from now on.

How lucky that John came across them!  I hope they find good and happy
homes.

Well, I don't know if the elderly lady who came out and helped him get them
up into her yard (Momma cat followed) plans to try to adopt them out.  She
just said she'd feed them and try to keep them all away from the street.
But who knows?  John guessed she was in her mid-70's.
