They just keep adding and adding brands. The latest casualty is the
entire line of Nutro Gourmet Classics, which happens to be the favorite
food of our crew of picky eaters. :(
I have 6 cases I need to return and we're scrambling to find other non
deadly food they will eat.

This is a very ugly thing, isn't it? Guess it's time to start cooking.

Unless they are chunks in gravy or contain wheat gluten I wouldn't worry
about using them.

They have been added to the recall. Every single one of the Nutro
Gourmet Classics line. Every one.

I assume that you would have mentioned it if it wasn't, but I gotta ask.
This is still a wheat glutin problem, right?

You mean the Nutro that the girl in the petshop persuaded me was a
'safe' option to buy for finnicky felines a few weeks ago... (sighs)
I haven't used it yet because even when I bought it I thought it was
probably a Bad Idea (actually I thought the finicky felines would
probably refuse to eat it...) I guess I'll put them in the trash. At
least I only bought two small cans to try...
I think I'm DEFINITELY going to quit feeding them canned food for the
duration - they're running out of things to eat!

FWIW, it's the favorite food of our crew of *very* finicky felines.

I'm sure they'll refund your money. :)

Make sure the dry food you feed them does not contain corn!

Corn?! I thought it was wheat gluten that was the danger ingredient...

Corn is not in question AFAIK. Wheat gluten imported from China.

But even that you have to watch out for garlic for the cats.
BTW the super duper cat food with the salmon and egg soufle? Molly and Jake
never even sniffed it. After a few hours on a plate it started to really
look like plastic fake food.

I know that the Gerber brand of baby food doesn't use onions in their
all-meat food, though I'm not sure if that means they don't use garlic.
I use Gerber meat baby food to hide the taste of Roxy's lysine.

True.

Oh dear. Bet it wasn't cheap, either.

But baby food doesn't contain taurine which is necessary for a cat's
survival - without it they will go blind and eventually die from lack of it.
I've been feeding my fur-babies Fancy Feast "pate" canned and they are doing
wonderfully well on it. I made the decision some time ago simply by reading
the label - the first three ingredients are meat and there is not a single
trace of wheat or wheat gluten (which is only a "filler" that ends up
creating more to scoop out of the litter box). I would think that anyone
could feel safe feeding their cats a canned cat food as long as it doesn't
have any wheat or wheat gluten listed in the ingredients.
Hugs,
CatNipped

There's a cat gravy that has the Taurine in it. Maybe you could add that
to whatever you've decided to feed the cat. I got a bottle of it at
PetCo, just because my kitten loves gravy...

Be careful to read the ingredients, however, because wheat gluten is what
they use in gravy to thicken it (which is why most of the first round of
recalls were for "meat in gravy" type foods).

I have six cans of FF in my pantry. I have not been giving any to TuTu
since the first word of the recall. I finally got out a good magnifying
glass to read the ingredients. Each can listed "wheat gluten" as an
ingredient. I am aware that it is not on the recall list. I have stated
several times that my disposer ate more of the wet food than TuTu did.
My Siamese ( RB 16) loved anything with gravy, but TuTu did not like it at
all. MLB

Hmmmm... what flavors were they? My four will only eat the "pate" canned*
and I've examined the ingredients listed on those quite carefully and there
is *NO* wheat, wheat gluten or wheat byproducts lised. Thankfully, they
have never like any of the "gravy" type foods.
* Specifically: Tender Beef Feast, Groumet Chicken Feast, Tender Liver and
Chicken Feast, and Turkey and Giblets Feast.

Flaked tuna feast, Grilled whitefish and tuna feast, Flaked tuna and
chicken. The second and third items contain "by-products" and all
"wheat gluten" I have a theory that the fancier the name, the less
likely TuTu will eat it. My son did the shopping for me when these were
purchased.

This is getting so out of hand. That soon there won't be any thing left on
the shelves.
I pulled all cat food off the shelves that have any wheat gluten in them no
matter what brand it was.
The distributors are accepting anything back right now. I have a sign
posted at the cat food aisle and on each door entering the store advising of
the pet food recall. There is a notice also that the store and myself are
not responsible for the recall.
Personally I am ready to start going to a raw food diet if it gets to the
other major brands such as fancy feast or Whiskas. I am worried about
Rumble who already has damaged kidneys and liver from being on diazepam for
his epilepsy
I hate to say this with all these recalls. I am sure the furballs were
exposed some how some way but I am praying that none show any problems here
in the future. They added Publix a very local supermarket to the recall
list yesterday Publix, Winn Dixie, Food Lion and Wal-Mart are the local
super markets here.

I'm glad as heck I bought Persia's x/d food well before this nightmare
started. Her food isn't on the list. The vet's office has been innundated
with calls about the prescription diet food they sell.
