Why do they *do* this?

It's been raining for the last five or so hours and all fifteen cats
were inside when I got home.  Spooky ran out when I opened the front
door, saw it was raining, and came back in without getting wet.  None
of them went out until a little while before bed time.  Right at bed
time, Mudpie came in soaking wet and insisted on being friendly all
over my lap.  When he's like this, I have to wait for him to dry
before I can go to bed because he will certainly mess up the bed.
Just about the time he was beginning to dry off, Fleagor came in even
wetter, jumped up on the computer table and proceeded to shake off as
much water as possible - several times - onto the monitors and my
glasses.  Then he stood in my lap and ground his muddy paws into my
clothes.  Fleagor is even more certain to mess up the bed.

Most of the time, I love my cats, but sometimes some of them try my
patience.

When one of my cats comes in wet, I dry them off.  Lindy doesn't like a
towel, so for her I use a small terrycloth rag about the size of a
washcloth, and just "pet" her with it.

That sort of works on Mudpie and Avery: they have dense fur with the
water just on the surface and they don't shake it off.  It works less
so with Snowball and Maryweather whose coats are less tight.  It
doesn't wotk at all for Fleagor because he has loose long hair and
shakes as soon as he comes to a stop.  It doesn't work on Millie
because she also has long loose hair, but also she can't be caught
when she's wet. - fortunately, she goes off into a corner and licks
herself dry.  Ozy waits until I'm asleep to go out and get wet, then
he comes back and lies down next to me.

LOL! Nikki used to do that. She'd un out in the rain, come in all wet
and dry herself on me, then run back out. This could go on for the most
part of the night.

I think they just enjoy warming themselves up and drying themselves off on
a favorite human. :o)
