Sometimes the people i meet in this field just surprise me.

There's been some recent developments at the clinic.  I haven't been
at work since last tuesday since my nec kwas hurting and my doctor
told me to take the rest of the week off.

My neck is still stiff btw, and i'm seeing a physical therapist this
thurs.

Remember that stray dog I found?  Turned out yes he did have an owner,
who also had three other dogs.  To make a long story short, the dog is
a young dog, not even a year old.  It had a ton of energy, and the
ownershad not done any training and didn't even walk him everyday.

They came in to the clinic where i put them in an exam room and
brought them the dog.  We talked some more and it became more and more
apparent that even though they liked the dog, they weren't the kind of
people that would really take responsibility.  She didn't even know
when he was vaccinated last.

One of the kennelworkers, as i mentioned had fallen in love with the
dog, whose name is Raider btw, so I just introducer her to the owners,
and the owners thanked me for finding the dog, etc

Five minutes later, the coworker comes by and tells me that the owners
had given the dog to her.

Just like that.

After picking my jaw up from the floor, i ran out and flagged the
owner down as she was leaving and had her fill out a Relenquishment of
Ownership form. (Standard procedure and covering legal basis.  The
woman signed it and that was it.

Sheesh!  Yeah didn't know how to properly take care of thise dog and
had no time to be a responsible owner so she was willing to just give
up the dog.  Well the coworker really likes the dog and plans to give
it a good home, get him neutered and give him the love and attention
that he deserves.

Happy ending on that note.

On the other hand, remember Mango?  He's the very old cat that
recently was adopted by one of the new kennel workers?

Well I spoke to a friend and apparently that girl is not longer
working with us.  I don't know the details, but i'm told it was not on
good terms.  But what I DO know is that she didn't take Mango with
her.  I'm shocked and angry and I'm not sure what to think.  But the
bottom line is that Mango is back with us and now I have to try to
find a home for him again, which won't be easy.  Mango's not your
typical adult cat and he's got some health issues.

More about Mango later, It's gettng late and i'm back to work
tomorrow, with restrictions because of my neck.

Take care,

Kristi

I hope your neck gets better soon.

The dog is much better off.

That's a shame about Mango, but it sounds as though it's a good thing for
him that person didn't take him.  She probably wouldn't have taken good care
of him.

I'm afraid the longer you live, the more awful things you will see,
which was the reason I didn't become a vet 40 years ago even though I
considered the profession.  For your sake, try to ignore and forget the
bad times and remember only the happy ones.

Hope your neck gets better soon.

At least she accepted that she couldn't have the time and gave Raider
over to someone who will love him and give him the time etc. Worse if
she had insisted on hanging onto him even with a good home waiting for
him. It's not nice that someone doesn't seem to love animals as much
as we do but she at least didn't insist on taking Raider back

I am so sorry for Mango I really was over the moon when I heard he had
been adopted I hope someone else turns up for him. Listening to your
descriptions of him with dogs and his voice- if I wasn't in the UK I'd
be standing outside with an empty cat basket and a sign saying "Mango
come home!"

Yeah he almost got nailed today cause he was roaming through the dog
kennel room while the kennel staff was walking dogs.  And I heard one
of the dogs lunged at him and almost got him.

Sheesh!  So poor Mango ended up in his cage for most of the day.  And
I had to set up for an emergency surgery today so i couldn't let him
out cause i knew he would wander into the surgery suite again.

I swear that cat is so clueless at times.  His absence of fear is
brodering on dangerous and though i feel bad keeping in his cage, it's
better than having him being attacked by one of the dogs.

I have a friend with a small ("hobby" type) farm in
Minnesota's North Woods country.  She hasn't had much
trouble with people's unwanted dogs, but every fall she can
look forward to rescuing several half-grown ex-kittens some
of the "summer people" got for their kids to play with
during the summer, then abandoned when they moved back to
the city for the start of school!  (How's that for training
your kids to have a sense of responsibility?)

I have a feeling that both Raider and Mango are better off right now than
they'd have been if they were with their previous owners.

I hope that Mango gets placed in a OneTrueHome where he'll be spoiled
rotten for the rest of his nine lives, and I hope your neck feels better
soon!
