On Saturday mornings, I try to have a treat for Kenzie.
She doesn't like Pounce, or any other cat treat I've ever tried, but
turkey, ham, chicken, and of course potato chips (crisps, for those
across the pond) are things she likes. Sardines are reserved for when
she has to go to TED.
Another thing I do, mostly on weekends, is divide her food into two
portions; she thinks she's getting 'extra'. She's a real food oriented
kitty! Sh's a little overweight at 12 pounds on her small frame; Ted
would like to see her lose about 1.5 lbs. I don't see that
happening.....
This Saturday, I had an unopened turkey ham. When I have those, I cut
open the plastic, and let the juice drain over Kenzie's dry food.
She thinks she's getting something real special!
So she ate both portions of her food (about 30 minutes apart), and I
gave her some of the turkey ham, for 'dessert'.
She went out on the front porch, several times, as she often does on the
weekends; today it's barely above freezing, but sunny, so she doesn't
stay out there for very long.
A little later in the day, I went into the kitchen and found Kenzie
staring at her food bowl, as if hoping yet more food had magically
appeared.
You know: it's like going to the refrigerator, hoping there's a snack
there you didn't see the last 3 times you checked.
She gave me her best mournful "I'm just a starving skin and bones kitty"
look, and then decided to drink some water.
While she was drinking, I managed to sneak up right behind her, and put
some potato chips in her food bowl, and go back by the sink undetected.
I was in my stocking feet, and the radio was on, which helped, I'm sure.
When Kenzie was done drinking her water, she again checked her food
bowl.
It had potato chips in it!
The look on her sweet face was priceless, as she looked from me, to the
bowl, and back at me. I could practically see her thinking "Paw couldn't
have put those in there; he's been over by the sink. *I* made them
appear!"
Kenzie proceeded to eat the potato chips, while looking over her
shoulder at me from time to time; with a *very* smug look on her face.
I think she's trying to figure out how to make the magical appearance of
a treat a more reliable phenomenon for her.
Now, she's fast asleep on her heated bed, and purring very quietly.
I think she's dreaming of the next treat she's going to make magically
appear for her leisurely consumption.

I always thought she was a small cat, mostly eyes and collar. :) What
a cute magic trick.

Buy UNSALTED potato chips. You'd be surprised how good they taste (even to
me and I'm a salt-a-holic).

Sweet! (no, savoury!)

We should all hope so! Wish someone would leave me potato chips (unsalted)
in my bowl!

>Aww! Happy little girl!
I try to make Kenzie happy. I really don't know if she is.
She's pretty quiet, and makes so few demands on me: food, water, clean
litter, and affection, of course. She lets me know when she wants some
attention.
She *loves' ear and chin scritches. She does ask for, and gets them,
fairly often. She never seems to want me to stop, and I think this makes
her happy.
Occasionally, she will sit in my lap, which is a real treat for me. I
think that makes her happy.
I know she's not an *unhappy* kitty, but I really don't know how happy
she is. Sometimes I think she must be bored. But how can I tell?
She never plays. She will roll on her back, and bat for a little while
at the toys I try to temp her with, but she has little real interest.
Same with a laser pointer.
She sleeps a lot, of course. She keeps herself very clean. She likes to
go out on my porch, when the weather is nice. She has a window perch to
look out of, but there's little to see.
She's much less active than my previous cats were. I know she prefers to
be an 'only kitty'.
I hope her life is happy.
I hope her life is happy.
I hope her life is happy.

I'm sure she is happy, though she may not be very demonstratively so. It
sounds like she has the purrfect life with you.

You are a great paw and I'm sure Kenzie is happy. Soncek doesn't play
much either and sleeps a lot. Actually his favourite passtime is batting
at the Newton screensaver (Newton is an orange kitty) and I'm worried
the monitor will stop working because Soncek bats at the screen really
hard sometimes.
Best wishes and purrs,
