To summarize the article in the link above (Indianapolis Star, don't
know if registration is required or not):
The Keesling family of New Castle, Indiana (about 45 miles east of
Indianapolis) family was saved from death by Winnie, the 14-year-old
family cat who began jumping on her owner's bed and meowing wildly.
Winnie was "nudging" and meowing loudly into Mrs. Keesling's ear
around 1AM on March 24. Mrs. Keesling hesitated to get up, but
Winnie's persistance paid off. But because of some minor surgury the
day before, Mrs. Keesling thought her nauseousness and dizziness was
related to that and decided to call 911. When paramedics got there,
they removed the entire family from the home and treated them for
carbon monoxide poisoning (it was from a gasoline-powered water pump
in the basement). The entire Keesling family, including Winnie and
Winnie's Siamese friend Max, are fine now. This isn't the first time
Winnie has done something like this. Mrs. Keesling said that Winnie
acted in a similar way last summer when a series of tornadoes went
through the area. "I really believe cats can sense these kind of
things," she said.

Indy Star, last time I checked, was a non-intrusive news service and did not
