She's been laying on the floor in front of the TV and gazing intently at the
nightly news for the last 20 minutes.

LOL  Reminds me of a line from an old film 'Being There' (Peter Sellers,
dark political comedy).  Also marketed obscurely under the name Chauncy
Gardener because that's what he was, a gardener.

Persia pays absolutely no attention to television.  I found it surprising at
the cat show how many videos they were selling that were for cats.  Do most
of them watch TV?!

It's one of my all-time favorite movies. I probably own at least three
copies of it.

All of mine now watch TV from time to time. It didn't used to be that way,
in the past, only Baby Eyes would watch. Except when I played a bird movie
for them, then they would all watch.

It's funny how Persia will watch and chatter at the outdoor birds but she
really never paid much attention to my indoor birds.  She was fascinated
with my parakeets, Rachel and Lorien, when she first came around here but a
squirt bottle cured her of trying to get at them; gradual introduction and
she was content to just watch them.  And now she can very often be found
meatloafing near Peaches' cage but she never, ever bothers her.  Who says
cats can't be "trained"?

I never got one of those videos for my guys, but I probably should--
at least Stinky would probably love it.  He watches nature programs,
baseball and basketball.  Dante will suddenly get enthralled with
something, and just watch for about ten minutes-- I can't figure out
yet what it is that gets his attention.  He was watching "The Killers"
(1948, Burt Lancaster) last Saturday night.

OMG! Yoda loves basketball, too.
Now I'm gonna tell you this story at the risk of sounding like a
fruitcake, but I swear it is true. Boots lays on the foot of the
recliner with DH and sometimes appears to be watching TV. We were
watching this movie, "Dark Water". She was staring intently at the
screen for a long, long time. If anyone has watched it, the gist of
the story is a haunted apartment where it all begins with a leak in
the ceiling. Then Boots started staring at the ceiling.
Now, tell me this. Do you think a cat has the ability to actually
*process* that kind of information? She used to stare at the ceiling
when the AC vent would come on, I guess it makes a funny noise. So
this *could* be coincidetal, although the AC wasn't running at the
time. I swear, it was kind of creepy.

Mine don't usually, although some nature programs or Animal
Planet programs sometimes capture their attention
momentarily.  However, there WAS the time they were showing
a ducumentary about feral cats on PBS, and I looked over at
Patches - in the chair next to mine - just in time to
prevent him launching himself at the screen during a filmed
cat fight!  (I don't know what they were saying to each
other, but obviously the sound wasn't dubbed, and he took
exception!)
