The tell-tale paw

We have a white bath mat in front of the vanity in our bathroom, which
is on the 2nd floor of the house. The litter boxes are in the
basement, a full two staircases below our bathroom.

Yesterday morning, I noticed a brown smudge on the bath mat. When I
put my glasses on, I noticed that the brown smudge was, in fact, a paw
print. I didn't lean down to sniff, but I'm reasonably certain that
the brown was #2.  However, and here is the mystery, there is only ONE
paw print, not a trail, and as far as I can tell, there is no other #2
in the bathroom, or any where else in the vicinity.   Did the maker of
the print limp around on 3 legs until finding the white mat on which
to leave his signature?

May very well be it!  Could have been hopping around going, "Eww, Eww, Eww!
Need a towel, quick!"

Hmm. that just reminded me of the time we were playing hide-and-seek  at the
beach house. (LO-O-ONG time ago.) It was dusk and getting darker; I was
trying to make my way back to the home goal (Did we really pronounce it
"goolz" then?) and decided to crawl on my hands and knees so as to be less
visible.

My left hand hit something squishy, but because it was dark I couldn't see
what it was (nor was I smart enough to realize) so I brought my hand up close
to my face just as I was breathing in. GAG!

"Ew! Ew! Ew ew ew!" I cried, all the way home and having arrived, I waved my
had around and hollered to whoever was  around "GET IT OFF!! GET IT OFF!!!!"

That's probably what happened. Similar to when they have to, *you* know:
Ralph. No matter where they are, especially on a solid uncarpeted floor, they
manage to make their way onto the priceless Oriental carpet that you
inherited, so that their puke lands in a soft spot.

LOL: I can see the kitty limping on three legs up two flights...
