I have a king-size bed.  So I have 4 pillows on the bed.  Two are just sort
of backdrop, if you will, as they match the bedspread.  But the other two
pillows I use (well, mostly the one on the left side).  Persia, the intrepid
tapping cat (nose, cheek and shoulder) has taken to crawling up on the top
pillow above my head in the wee hours of the morning.  Then she starts
tapping on the top of my head!  Or just placing a paw on my head and sort of
leaning into it.

I'm a very light sleeper and often have insomnia.  She seems to think this
will actually get me out of bed well before her normal 6AM feeding time.  As
long as she's just touching me I sort of giggle and ignore it and I doze a
bit.  If she starts tapping on my head, well... a sixteen 16 lb. cat tapping
on your head around 5AM isn't really something you can easily ignore.  It's
cute, it's endearing.  It's also annoying!

So far I've avoided being the cat-slave who feeds here whenever she meows or
taps me.  After all, even though she's healthy 16 lbs. of cat isn't
something to take lightly in terms of her health.  So I usually manage to
coax her down and get her to snooze with me for at least another 30 minutes.
But she's constantly refining her techniques.

Don't tell Persia I said this as she would probably be offended.  But she
does seem to have one characteristic in common with Kayla.  She believes
that life is a test.

Sometimes it is cute or endearing to have your limits tested.  And other
times it is just plain a PITA.  But Kayla does admire the spirit of it.

Vino gets on the pillow next to my head and rakes my hair with his paw.
It is sooooo annoying!  He snags hair and actually pulls it too.  He
knows I hate it but he does it anyway.  Probably because he can see me
becoming more and more awake the more he does it.
But how can I be mad when he does other totally cute things like curl up
in a perfectly round ball in the crook of my arm?  Or meatloaf on my
chest with mega headbutts and purrs?

Perhaps one of those  satin sleep nets would help the situation.  They are
supposed to help save a "hair-do".  MLB

Stinky get on the pillow next to my head and commits personal hygeine.

Stinky is the sweetest creature I've ever encountered!  He even smells
sweet. ;)  No, the name really came from the resident cat, Mimi's (RB)
reaction to him when I brought him home.  Mimi was a totally spoiled
little minx, and when I brought home this sticky black and white
urchin, Mimi looked at him and made a face that said clearly, "why
have you brought me this stinky kitten?" ;)

Ok. I apologize to Stinky.

(PS: I love how (most) cats smell!)

That reminds me of the Dave Barry column about sleeping on a friend's
living room couch one evening, with a noisy and fairly stupid dog keeping
him awake. Among many annoying behaviors, one of them was that the dog
would suddenly sit down and engage in "loud personal hygiene".

Kitties can affect sleep patterns!  Since Betty died, it's a bit
harder to get to sleep without a purry furry on top of my chest or
hugging my side.  But my sleep is also less interrupted by her
wandering away and coming back.  During the summer, it's not too bad,
as she'll just climb on top of me and fall back to sleep.  But in the
winter, she would tap at the covers next to my shoulder so that I
would wake up and lift them so that she could get inside.

That is what TuTu does.  In the winter, she makes a nice heating pad.
When the weather is warmer, it can get too hot. MLB

Persia has never been a burrow under the covers kitty.  She just taps me to
wake me up to try to get me to feed her LOL  But I've heard about burrowing
cats, Tak.

My small dog (Sampson, RB) always wanted to burrow.  I was stuck on a trip
back from visiting my parents in Florence Alabama with my brother when his
car broke down.  So we got a motel room next to the Toyota dealership so
they could work on his car (and thank GOD there was a Toyota dealership in
this small town!).

The motel accepted my little dog without extra charge.  We had a double
room, meaning two beds.  And when it came time to go to sleep I said to my
dog, "Ready to go to sleep?" Lifted the covers and he burrowed down by my
feet under the bedspread.  He curled up and went to sleep.  My brother was
so surprised!  I said, "Oh, you never saw him go to sleep before!"  He
exclaimed, "Won't he suffocate?"  Apparently not, he's been doing this since
he was a puppy.  He likes it down there.

Sampson was around 9 years old at the time and lived to be nearly 18.  I
guess sleeping under the covers didn't bother him.  My feet don't stink LOL

I guess I'm very lucky that none of my 7 are tappers. Baby Eyes is the only
one that occasionally annoys me at night - she walks on my pillow and steps
on my hair and pulls it, but I know she isn't doing it on purpose. Abelard's
the only one that really likes to burrow in this bunch but there've been
many burrowers in the past - Safford (RB) was the most persistent.

You said it all... You might as well give in, though.
You *will* surrender... :-)

Nope, I won't.  I don't need a 20 lb. cat tapping on my head (or my nose or
my shoulder).
