It's still pretty rough here-- it all has that kind of dirty, worn
left-over late winter look.  But it is officially spring in my
postage-stamp backyard.  My purple and white crocuses are up, and
snoozing happily among them, is a big, round-faced orange-and -white
tabby tom from down the street. ;)

We have tulips and daffodils coming up - but no crocuses.  Ours seem to
prefer a fall blooming.  We planed some in the corners of the lawn where the
walkways intersect, but now they don't come up there - they're coming up
yards away!  Every fall!

Actually, our daffodils in the front are in full bloom.  We just planted
some white petunias on Ivy's (RB) grave.  We also ringed it with landscaping
stones and covered it with mulch.  I sure hope it stays nice there, and
doesn't get all covered with crabgrass - that I spend two hours yesterday
digging and pulling out instead of doing my school homework!!!

Can you use Scott's Haltz (Halts?).  Works great on crabgrass!

Sam, closely supervised by Mistletoe who wonders what this has to do
with cats.

Around here, we seem to have gone from winter to summer and sorta
skipped spring.  Our beautiful daffodils committed suicide earlier,
blooming when it was 75 degrees one day and 20 the next.  They're all
gone as well as the crocuses and tulips - so it's time to plant summer
flowers.  For which we have little hope 'cuz our weather forecasters
predict that this summer will be the hottest and driest in over 50
years!!  I believe it - - it's not even April yet and the heat/dryness
is wreaking havoc already over most of the Valley!!

It seems that we have a very early spring here in Helsinki, too. My
crocuses are coming up, the cats bask in the sun in their enclosure, and
there is no trace of snow anywhere any more. It's been over 10 C every
day for the past week or so. We usually have this kind of weather in
late April, early May.

I have a week off work after Easter, and me and my brother have been
talking about going out to the island for a few days, at least, if the
weather stays this warm.

I know what you mean - I hate that left-over late winter look! Not
exactly the pristine, Christmas-card sparkly whiteness of early winter.
You should come to the Bay Area sometime in March. After a winter of
rain, but with temperatures warm enough to support growth, the entire
region is blanketed in emerald green. Even this year, with very low
rainfall, it's all "greened up" right now.

Then again, you don't need to go anywhere! What a great image. I love
kitty visitors.

Neighborhood cats seem to love my little yard, much to Stinky's
dismay.  One regular visitor went to RB under my shrub one hot day a
couple of years ago, and I had to call someone to scoop the poor thing
up and take him away.

We missed our crocuses this year. They must have been blooming around
begin of March. We found them, when we removed tons of leaves, acoms,
conkers and fallen branches from the trees. Yesterday our lawn had its
first cut this year:-)
