Each of our cats is very affectionate. And each one has its own
special way of showing that affection.

Dulce Mae comes bouce-bounce-bouncing into the room, very
enthusiastically ready to be petted. As I pet her, she licks my hand
and purrs. She asks to get head skritches, and rubs against my hands.
She is also the bathroom kitty, who lets me know that I am loved and
needed, even if I don't know how to use a proper litterbox.

Little Boy looks up at me with "pick me up and cuddle me" eyes. He has
a nice loud purr. At night, he plays teddy bear, and scrunches up
against me, giving me a faceful of yummy tummy fur, purring for all
he's worth (which is a lot, of course).

Little Feet is a bit more laid back and less demonstrative, but he
loves to be held in the "rock-a-bye baby" position. This is when he
starts his light purr, and cuddles into my chest. He sometimes cuddles
up to my pillow at night, and always stands up to get head skritches
if I reach towards him. When I am sick, he is also the first of the
kitties to pull nurse duties. Little Feet is my companion kitty, who
also keeps an eye on me if I should choose to soak in the tub.

Buster is a lap kitty. When I sit down or lay down on the couch, he
comes over and gets as close to me as possible, leaning hard into my
nack and shoulder. He digs his claws into my shoulder, and purrs his
own special purr - sort of a cross between a purr and a wheeze.

Bucky, whenever he is inside, follows me around, aiming to be about
waist height so he can stick his little kitten head into my palm
whenever I stop. If i don't stop, he meows at me to love him. He lets
me pick him up and cuddle hime (for a few minutes only), but is not a
lap cat. His eyes tell me he loves me, especially if I am lying down
reading. Then he gives me a full-body (his body) face rub full of
kitten fur, and a LOUD rumble purr. He pretty much stays close to me,
despite Dulce mae's attempts to beat him up.

Blackie and Spot (outdoor ferals) both rub up against me and purr when
I come out. Blackie even shows me his tummy.

Acqui shows his affection by not slapping at me when I put out food
(big grin).

I suppose I should say that Senyah shows her affection by tolerating
my obsession with cats (bigger grin), and by taking care of my
kitties... (well, okay, that's only ONE way she shows her affection,
but I'll stop there...).

Hugs and Purrs,
Mark

If everyone in the world were as well-loved as you are, this world would be
a happier place, and there would be no wars.

[snipping delightful post ONLY for brevity]

You have such a nice bunch!

It's great to think about the different ways cats show affection. And
they really are different.

Smudge likes to stick close to me. She doesn't trot behind me (unless we're
taking a walk together outside), but wherever I go in the house, she will
soon appear and curl up on or very near me. She's not an in-your-face cat,
but she is very constant and steady in her affections.

Roxy is exuberant. If I've been away for a while, she shows her joy in
having me back by racing all over the apartment and scratching things
excitedly. And when she's in the mood for cuddles, she's very in-my-face
about it - nose kisses, head rubs on my face, loud purrs.

Licky always has a love-hate relationship with touch, from humans anyway.
He loves to be petted, but he's easily spooked when approached. So I have
to be very cautious, and approach him in a slow, non-threatening way. When
he's not feeling threatened, he gets himself ready for petting by
stretching out (usually with his head lower than his butt), looking up at
me coyly, and purring loudly. Usually he positions himself so that I have
to reach forward quite a distance, I think so he won't be overwhelmed by
my physical presence. But when I'm sitting at the computer, then he just
cuddles right up to me, curling up and going to sleep purring. Sometimes
when I'm up and about, he'll suddenly start meowing at me for what seems
like no reason, until it penetrates my thick skull that he hasn't had
enough attention lately, and he's asking for cuddles!

Wow, the paragraph for Licky is longer than for the other two combined.
He's definitely my high-maintenance, drama diva cat.
