A conversation with Vino

Last night I got up at 3 am to pee.  When I got back in bed, Vino
cuddled up next to my face, leaning against the pillow.  As I was
drifting off to sleep again, I involuntarily made this high pitched sigh
in the back of my throat.  A few seconds later, Vino made the exact same
sound!  Aww, how cute, I thought.  I made the sound again.  A few
seconds later, Vino also made the sound.  I began to chuckle and made
the sound again.  And again, Vino copied me.
3 times back and forth, I think that's the longest conversation we've
ever had ;-)

You know you are a cat slave when you imitate a cat.  I constantly talk back
and forth to the furballs.  I can mimic each of their cries and noises.
Drives them a little bonkers sometimes

I wonder if it's the equivalent of repeating everything someone says
back to them, like kids do to irrirate each other (or their parents).
What is cat for "Stop copying me!" ?

That would explain Caliban's reaction when I copy him. ;)

LOL, that's funny!

I have conversations with Smudge, but I don't copy her. Usually our
conversations goes like this:

"Smudgie!"
"Meow!"
"SMUDGIE!!"
"Meow!"
"Smoodgy-woodgy-woodgy!"
<pause> "Meow..." (quietly)
"Smudge!"
"Meow!"

Sometimes Licky and I have little exchanges, too. With him, it's more
like:

"Licky!"
"Meow <whine>"
"Licky-boy!"
"Meeeeeeeeeee-ow <whine>"

His meow is very thin and forlorn and whiny sounding. I always feel like
no matter what I do, he's lacking in something essential. He'll go far
with that craftly little meow.

But not Roxy, she's a quiet kitty. Except for times like now, when she's
asleep and snoring loudly.

Aww, how sweet! Caliban often looks upset if I imitate him. Miranda is
more like, 'shut up and listen to *meeeee*!'

LOL  That's cute!  Persia and I often have little conversations.  Sometimes
she'll make a funny little murrph or meow and I do my best to imitate it.
This often instigates a brief exchange of "words" between the two of us.  I
have no idea what we're saying to each other.

I once had a very brief but pointed conversation with Pyewacket (RB).  He
was sitting on the shelf above a desk.  I was talking to him, in my special
"talking to cats voice", when I noticed something on the floor under the
desk.  I went on talking, as I bent over to pick up the object.  Apparently
Pye thought I was talking to another cat, because he said a very loud,
"Row!" in what sounded like an angry voice.  Since I wasn't being
unfaithful, I was a bit annoyed, so I responded, "Row!"  in as close as I
could come to the same tone of voice.  His eyes got really big, and he
meekly leaned forward for a skritch.  I guess he didn't know Meowmy knew
such language.  ;-)

My  boys are the talkiest non-Meezers I've ever seen.  Stinky has
always started conversations with me, with an emphatic "MEOW!" or
"RRrrrrrow!"  I have always been convinced that when he got here, he
simply observed how much talking went on, and determined that he had
better get a word or two in.

Dante got our attention in the shelter by squeaking insistently at us.
I thought it was because he was in a cage.  When I brought him home, I
discovered-- nope.  He just does it all the time. ;)

Ping would love to reply, but he is currently napping in a sunny spot on the
bed! Will a Zzzzzzzzz do? (yes, he snores - and so does Ernie and Bam-Bam
too!)

Love em too.... Except when I'm reading on the bed, laying (lying?) there,
and my eyes get heavy.... I put the book down, and am almost asleep.... then
ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

I get startled awake.

The really bad thing?

I don't know if it was me - or Ernie or Ping that did the snoring!!!!!  Or
any of the other five cats that were pinning be down with the blankets!

Round these parts, it's known as "snurring" :-)

Unfortunately, I'm not owned by a cat at the moment - but the pub I went
to last night had THREE cats, all coming for scritches :-)

(Nag's Head, Sunningdale, Berkshire if anyone wants to know).

(Shhhh! I think so too, but they *are* nice names, especially Sunningdale.
Someone sent me a video clip many years ago with the title "Catherding" and I
read it as "Cath-er-ding", when it's actually meant to be "Cat herding" and
it's a couple of cowboys (well, I guess they would be "catboys") on
horseback, and somehow herding hundreds of cats. It's obviously faked, but it
was very funny.

Anyway, I decided that Ketzl's middle name should be Catherding. Sounds
classy.)

That was the EDS commercial.  Very funny!  I think it first aired during one

THANKS for that link! I swear the version i got didn't have the underscore
between cat and herding, hence my initial confusion.

Fun to see it again!

With Soncek I copy the sounds he makes (or at least I try). He looks at
me in despair, as through he cannot get through to me, and makes his
sounds louder or higher.

We used to reckon our Isis (RB) who was the noisiest cat ever was trying to
tell us in no particular order, the meaning of life, the proof of God's
existence and next Saturday's winning lottery numbers and getting annoyed
because it only came out as "Mrrrwwww!"

(By the way, has anyone ever heard a cat say "miaou"- I haven't)

Well, Stinky does often produce a perfect "Meow!" but it's not his
primary expression.  He does a lot of just "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
rrrrrrrrrr!"  When he "meows," though, he generally goes "Wow!" or
"Now!"  or "Yow!" ;)

Dante, of course, says "NYOW-WOW!"   It sounds a little nasal, a
little gurgly, and a little echo-y.

One of Miranda's sounds is a very clear and crisp 'miaou!' But she has
lots of other sounds, like meer and ma-ma, and so on. She's very vocal
on the whole. :)
