< NO ONE ELSE READ THIS!!! :-) >
Have you noticed how many people say "Happy Belated Birthday!" when what they mean is "Belated Happy Birthday!"?
I mean, the birthday wasn't belated; the "happy" was.
I love these things, and in no way mean disrespect to anyone.
(My problem is that my best friend and theater/dining/museum companion passed away recently. She and I used to love to point out malapropisms and misnomers and mis-all-kinds-of-that-stuff. I miss doing that, so I beg everyone's indulgence here. I know it's OT. So sue me! :-))))
Sharing these with Ketzl is met with the utmost disregard.

A very sweet friend of mine, native Italian, has lived here most of her life but retains her Italian accent. And, apparently, her understanding of some idioms.
The first time I heard say the following (maybe not really a malapropism), I didn't know whether to laugh, to correct her or to let it go. I decided on a hug and to let it go, with the hope that I'd hear it again, from time to time (life being what it is.)
"It's a doggy-dog world!"

I *do* have an imagination, but... :-)
You reminded me of another expression that I came across a while ago. Actually several years ago. When my Godmother passed away, the six nephews and nieces, of which I'm one, were distributing her effects.
It was an amicable process and quite meaningly fulfilling.
Anyway, I was given some letters she had kept, written between her and her then-beau, my uncle, who was also my godfather. (My mother's brother eventually married my father's sister.)
He wrote:
"A few friends of mine and I are going hey-heying down to the beach on Sunday and I'd love it if you could come along."
Why don't people say things like "we're going hey-heying" any more?

His all time winner was one summer when one of the staff was wearing very short shorts and as she went to lunch his comment was "If she's still wearing those knickers when she gets back I'm going to tear them off her"

> "It's a doggy-dog world!" I've heard (or, more accurately, seen, since this and the correct phrase do sound quite similar) this one before. And I think, in the story I heard about someone thinking this was the phrase, the person's first language was English.
One day, when I was in high school, my friends and I were standing around gossipping, and one of the girls said, "Oh, he's such an -" and then turned to the side (so we could see what she was about to do), grabbed one of her own butt cheeks, and sort of jiggled it. The rest of us were blank - huh? She repeated, "*YOU* know - " grab and jiggle.
It turned out that she thought a common epithet was pronounced "*ss-HOLD".

When one of my aunts was a little girl, she told her family that she wanted to sing the song about putting your feet up on the table. After a considerable amount of confusion, they figured out that she was talking about the hymn "Higher Ground", which includes the lyrics "Lord, lift me up and let me stand, by faith, on heaven's tableland".
