Annie's chemo - round 2

Wed. Annie had her second round of chemo.  There's good/bad news.  The
vet noticed the growth has shrunk, however she now has a growth on the
side of her tongue.  We haven't scheduled a 3rd session yet, the vet
wants her to come in weekly for the next 2 weeks and get a shot that
works with the chemo.  She did say if she doesn't see drastic
improvement that she probably would stop the chemo.

The vet doesn't think Annie's in pain - she didn't cry when her mouth
was held open.  Annie's attitude seems pretty good.  This last session
seemed to have perked her up - she's been eating a bit on her own.
Not a whole lot but at least I can give her more of a variety than if
I'm feeding her by syringe.

Annie always has kept to herself, she's a very timid girl.  Living
with 2 big dogs probably isn't fun for her, though her brother has
adapted pretty well.
Since her diagnosis, I've been trying to spend more time with her.
When I'm watching tv at night, I'll bring her in with me and cover her
up with the blanket.  Even if one of the dogs is laying on the couch
with me, she'll stay there and sleep.

Last night she slept on my pillow.  She likes to rest her chin on my
hand or fist.  Not sure if it's just to have contact or if the slight
pressure / support feels good.

I just found out that I get to go to a conference for work.  It's in
Vegas and since I'm going to be out there, I decided to go up and vist
Best Friends.  I'd been wanting to do that this year so I might as
well take advantage of being in Vegas.  Annie will stay at the vet's
so they can keep an eye on her.  And I'll definitely be checking in
frequently.

We appreciate all the purrs and good thoughts.

What a little sweetheart.  Some of this is hard for me to read.
Annie's story is a familiar one to me.  I think that she is very much
like my Betty, who liked to have physical contact with her hoomin.  I
think it's that she loves your attention and is feeling especially
close to you right now.

Lots of purrs still on-going for you and Annie. I hope the chemo starts
to work on the new growth.

I'm glad that there has been some improvement, and I hope she will
continue to get better. I'm sorry about the second growth, though. :(
Did that appear after she was last in to see the vet - which I assume
was when she had her second chemo treatment? If so, that's odd.

That's great!

Either way, that's so sweet.

Oooo, I want a full report! :) I've had a wish to go there for years.
Now that it's a big-time operation, I'll bet it's harder to plan a trip
there - they probably have volunteers all the time now. But at least they
now have on-site dorms for volunteer visitors. You used to have to stay
in a nearby inn, which costs at least $100/night. I don't know if Best
Friends charges you to stay in the dorm, or if that's a freebie for people
who are there to work for them.

It's a 4-hour drive from Vegas, btw - but you probably already know that.
I'll bet that drive goes through some gorgeous country. Utah in general
has been on my travel wish-list for years - Zion, Bryce, etc. But I don't
travel well alone, and sadly I don't have any travel partners. :(

Purrs for you and Annie,

Joyce
