Don't even think that bad things are done to black cats here on Halloween.
It would never happen.
I've been invited to a Halloween party tomorrow night, and I'm going as a
black (witches) cat.
My brother Andrew who is very artistic is going to paint my face like a cat.
Unfortunately, he has things to do tomorrow and I have to have it done about
4.30
Which means it's completely impossible for me to show myself outside for
three hours at least.
I shall also wear my grandmother's fur coat, unfortunately, it's dark brown.
Ah well, you can't have everything. So it isn't black. I'm sure witches
had brown cats too.
It's the best I can do. If anyone at the party has a digicam, I'll try and
post a pic of Tweed looking ridiculous with a painted cat face.

I suspect that most "black" cats are actually very dark brown. Even my
Licky boy, who really does look black, is actually brown, when seen in
the right light. So I'd say you're dressing pretty accurately!
Sounds like a good time - hope it is! Look forward to pics.

I had a black cat 'Panther' very black like yours, but as you say
in a certain light she looked brown Her father was a blue Burmese,
I've also had two white Burmese whos eyes would look red in a
certain light very strange. Jean.P.

Yes Tweed.......what Sherry said! However, if you can, be sure to
cough up a hairball once all the other guests have arrived, and be
sure to do it in full view of everyone.

Most of the black cats I've known had a brownish cast in sunlight. Very few
are overall as black as the black part of a tuxedo cat.

Are you saying that a tuxedo's black fur is real black, as opposed to
an all-black cat's?
I have noticed that Licky (tuxedo) has pretty dark fur, but even his
fur is brownish in sunlight.

Frank has turned more brown as he gets older, but Nikki has remained as
black as ever, only with a sprinkling of white hairs over her back.

Looking forward to pictures. You know, black cats often turn brown when
they get on in years.

Well, mine are black, grey, brown tabby, and tabby calico
respectively...
re:black cats
I have heard people say that Nocturne is "the blackest cat they ever
saw." There is NO hint of brown in that lady (she's hard to take a
photo of since most of them simply turn out as black spots with no
definition of her legs, tail, etc--just a black thing with two green
eyes.)

I had the same problem with my rabbit Thumper (RB). I was never able to
get a good picture of him as he had floppy ears and dark eyes - nothing to
give definition. If anyone has tips for getting good photos of an all black
animal I would love to hear them for future reference :)
